Sim matrix are screwed up. 45 pt Favorite & Lost Topic

45 pt favorite at home and lost. This in not even a real possibility that is like Kansas or Duke losing to to a D3 school. It does not happen. This seems to happen more then it used to. I think this needs to be revised because this is a pay thing and not some free sim game.

The spread may as well be an random arbitrary number when it comes down to game time. The real question is, is your squad better than your opponent?

You played a slowdown offense, which you chose to not adjust when you were down 8 at the half.

You also shot 36% from the line.

Anyone who has played this game for any length of time has had more than one painful loss like this. I sure have. Learn from it.

I don't actually are about the real-life comparison for this game's sake, but UVA was favored by 22.5 against UMBC, lost by 20...

That's what I immediately thought of too, particularly given the slowdown aspect of what happened and an opponent shooting over 50% from 3. Looks a lot like that UVA game.

I hope shoe is reading this.

The spread doesn't take into account how bad you might game plan.

LOL ya looks like the miracle half time auto correct didn't work this time.

LOL, yeah upsets happen IRL. That’s the takeaway. Forced regression doesn’t always “work”, which makes the big upsets even more painful.

It's strange to think if he'd been down by more at half, he'd probably have had a better shot at coming back.

I will never understand why owners who have the superior team run slow down against clear inferior teams...no clue why, all it does is keep the other team in the game and if they get hot, well you see the potential outcome.

Definitely. Unless I have depth concerns, I rarely run slowdown, really only if I am certain the other team is better.

I hear ya on depth, even still I would be hesitant to run slowdown, unless like you said, if I am certain I am the clear inferior team.

I use slowdown regularly because I feel like it reduces my mistakes (fouls and TOs) to a game-deciding degree. I have some sympathy for the OP because of that.

I have no data to back this up, but I would guess I'm not the only coach who believes slowdown is more effective than it should be.

If I'm NOT a press team, I run slowdown against opposing press teams, especially if they run fastbreak. If I'm miles better than the opponent I'll play normal sometimes. And I'll play slowdown every time the teams are fairly similar. Basically any human controlled team that has a competent coach. Are these not good ideas?

In my crazy brain, I feel like it would make sense to slow down a team that's trying to win the possession battle. And more importantly, my head tells me that if you run slow down, you will have more cautious passing and the offense will take its time. With intent to increase efficiency on ball control. Running uptempo against a press sounds to me like sloppy play and turnovers.

Am I thinking too hard again?
