It's part of the risk of going after DI recruits as a DII team. I've lost a lot in that position. I've also lost while a huge percentage favorite. You can lessen your chances of getting sniped by a DI coach by going after Early or By End of Period 1 recruits. They won't sign with you then, but they will sign pretty early in the second session, before coaches at new DI jobs can try and salvage a first recruiting cycle by sniping good recruits from DII teams. Also, find recruits who want to play. This will also lessen your chances of losing out. You can offer a Start and Minutes, maybe the DI coach can't.
The ten team limit on the Considering List sucks. Most of us hate it. But like toad said, assume someone is always lurking. It sounds like you did everything you could and were just unlucky at the end. Try not to get too frustrated. It tends to even out over time.
Going after early guys doesn't help either. I only target Early and EoP1 guys because of poaching. And it still happens. I understand that going in to recruiting tho.
What I'd like to know tho, is if we could do an anonymous poll for those of you D1 coaches that use this strategy.... is it strictly strategic for you? Or do you find joy in ripping my heart out season after season? Haha. I am really curious about that!
But I like what one coach said on here.... once the list of schools gets past 10, just "expect" there to be humans below. That way you're prepared for what comes after.
(side question too.... are there any coaches out there that select jobs, and think "no, that school is too high up in the alphabet. I'm going to move down to a T school"? And if so.... you're evil! Lol!)
