what is the best amount of time for this? I would like my juniors to be An A for their iq.

Moderately smart players with average work ethic can reach A IQ (or very high A-) by the end of the junior season with 20-22 consistent minutes.

I go 25 each.

20-20 works fine for me.

I usually allot practice minutes based on my player's potential. If I have a bunch of freshman with a lot of greens, I might go 20 minutes each, but if they are almost maxed out, with very few greens I might go 25/25. If I have a junior/senior heavy class with almost everyone maxed out, I may even go 30/30.

I love high IQs. 25/25 here.

I go 20/20 mins with the exception of me playing lots of freshman as starters without using seniors and juniors.

Is there a diminished return after 20 minutes or so? Maybe that was from the old version, but I haven't gone over 20 minutes for as long as I can remember.

I believe there is still a diminished marginal return over apx 20. But the reduction is very small initially. No idea what the numbers are, but I imagine that it is something like the 21st minute is worth 0.99 of the 20th minute. BUT, I also think that the percentage reduction grows - so the 30th minute is worth meaningfully less than the 20th minute.

25/25 here as well

I think diminishing returns kicks in a bit before that, likely at 10 or so. I use 20 for zone and 10 for press in the press/zone, and the results I get are not well explained if diminishing returns hits after 20. I think it’s probably a gradual sliding scale - existent, but not very noticeable at 11-12; much more noticeable at 20-25.

Thanks shoe, that was along my line of thinking. The diminished returns start to hit pretty hard after 20-25 minutes. And I believe that goes for individual practice minutes as well, right?

I use 25/25. And i don't feel like there's diminishing returns at 25 min in off/def set practice minutes. I think it begins past 25.

I do feel like the individual categories start diminishing returns after 20.

I'm ready to believe that there are some diminishing returns below 20 - have not tested much

I haven’t tested closely either, it’s just based on eyeball observations. There may well not be a diminishing return directly on the value of the 20th minute vs the 10th minute in set practice; as I said, it’s probably pretty small under 20, if it exists. But there is kind of an undeniable built-in diminishing return effect to cumulative set practice anyway, given that it takes a lot more cumulative effort to move from B to A+ than it takes to move from D to C+.
