20ks - Abdul-Jabbar, Kareem; Brand, Elton; Williams, Deron; Calderon, Jose; Stoudemire, Amare; Fortson, Danny; Redick, J.J.: This is an interesting team. If you are using the best seasons of each player, I have you waaaaaaaay over on usage. If you are not using the best seasons of each player then, well, you are not using the best seasons of each player in a league where you try to build a good team using good seasons of players. I have your rebounding numbers looking pretty good, your eFG% is in the upper half, your assists are good, your turnovers are solid and defense seem at least fine. All that being said, those assumptions are built around the best seasons which you can’t afford. I am guessing you will be using sub-optimal seasons and have a really crappy bench. Going to guess you are a 30 – 35 wins team.
Updated final projections: Not enough minutes, 15 – 20 wins
24kpyrite - Durant, Kevin; Kidd, Jason; Sanders, Larry; Kanter, Enes; Asik, Omer; Carter, Vince; Ilyasova, Ersan: That was a pretty stupid trade you made with bds9992. Kidd was a pretty stupid player to pick with the resulting 1
st you got in the trade. But…. while Durant is awesome and Kidd is super good. I don’t really love anyone else you picked. There is a Vince Carter season I have used and like in the right circumstances. Ilyasova is incredibly useful on a budget. Asik is a generic pretty above average big. Kanter is a one way dynamo. LARRY SANDERS! is incredibly overrated in this format but solid. It seems like you are going to have to get a lot of usage from undrafted players. I’ll say 37 – 42 win team.
Updated final projections: Someone in this division has to win some games, 39 – 44 wins
albiband0 - Bird, Larry; Olajuwon, Hakeem; Ward, Charlie; Drexler, Clyde; Bradley, Avery; Kersey, Jerome; Bradley, Shawn: Look, this team probably kind of sucks. BUT! For a new owner joining the hardest league on this site, it is PRETTY FREAKING GOOD. I read your self evaluation and it only took you a round or two to figure out that Hakeem sucks. I think your pivot was a smart one. This team ******* LOVES to turn the ball over. My suspicion is that you will probably end up low on threes and foul a lot too. I am proud of you bud. 30 – 35 wins.
Updated final projections: Better than I thought it would be, 32 – 37 wins
ashamael - Gobert, Rudy; Thompson, Klay; Porter, Terry; Boozer, Carlos; Moon, Jamario; Miles, C.J.; Horford, Al: Two point usage Rudy is like one of my five or so favorite players in WIS. Klay is a really efficient player but who is a little on dimensional on offense. I think Porter, along with Derek Harper, is a little overrated as PG. He is often drafted in the third round but I think he is a fourth round guard. I would adore Boozer if he had more SF effectiveness, but at least him and Gobert can swap in and out. There aren’t a lot of teams with two elite offensive bigs. Jamario Moon is a mediocre ODL staple who despite that lukewarm endorsement I feel like I have drafted a hundred times. Al Horford is secretly one of the most efficient, solid enough at defense, flexible players in WIS with several usable seasons depending on what you want. 45 – 50 wins.
Updated final projections: Great bench but real hard division, 47 – 52 wins
bds9992 - Garnett, Kevin; Hardaway, Anfernee; Kemp, Shawn; Korver, Kyle; Porter, Otto; Burke, Trey; Hernangomez, Willy: Hardaway is kind of wasted in this scenario. None of your other likely starters can credibly defend point guards so he is stuck defending that spot which sucks when you have an elite defender who can cover three positions. The season you are using of Garnett is PF and C limited. So you have two average-ish defenders at the 2 and 3, arguably the spots with the most offense, and no other good options for creating good defense there. Shawn Kemp is honestly among the 5 – 10 most overrated and over drafted players in this format. All that being said, you have four players that I really love and your shooting is stellar. We will see what you can piece together for a high usage frontcourt bench on a limited budget though. That is a hard profile to fill and still keep it efficient. 35 – 40 wins.
Updated final projections: Not enough minutes plus a tough division, 30 – 35 wins
benhoidal - Davis, Anthony; Capela, Clint; Lowry, Kyle; Allen, Ray; Iguodala, Andre; Mirotic, Nikola; Anderson, Kyle: Ben has been comparing this to his 62 win Giannis team, but honestly I thought that team slightly overachieved and I think this team is much better. This one has an obvious weakness when it goes against teams with two elite perimeter scorers and certainly Ben has to find a lot of rebounding in his undrafted bench but he has a pretty decent budget left over to do it. Mirotic was a glorious fit behind Davis and I probably should have pulled the trigger on him behind Robinson. 55 – 60 wins.
Updated final projections: mptrey is too good, 51 – 56 wins
dBKC - Stockton, John; McHale, Kevin; George, Paul; Russell, Bill; Jones, Bobby; Johnson, Kevin; Andersen, Chris: This is a hard team to forecast because if dBKC is using the best season of each player, then he is already 3 million over the cap before he drafts a bench. So I don’t know exactly what season he is using. In this format, he has proven to be one of the best 5 – 10 owners, so I suspect his team will be good. But, everyone one of his players, while good, has a glaring flaw. Stockton: turnovers, McHale: rebounding, George: shooting %s (for his usage profile), Russell: sucking, Jones: rebounding, Johnson: shot distribution, Andersen: Actually, he rocks. Given all the unknowns but also giving this team the dBKC bump. 40 – 45 wins.
Updated final projections: That bench is kind of rough, 38 – 43 wins
dh555 - Paul, Chris; Camby, Marcus; Ginobili, Manu; Mourning, Alonzo; Wallace, Gerald; Redd, Michael; Edge, Charlie: This ******* guy. I have been in leagues with dh555 for a long time so I know how good he is, but he has been in an ODL rut. Not anymore. This team rules. Enough budget for a bench? Check. Good efficiency stats? Check. Great defense? Check. Well distributed usage? Check. Enough rebounding and threes? TBD but probably. 47 – 52 wins.
Updated final projections: Good amount of fouls and turnovers and I thought the bench would be better, 44 – 49 wins
gerryred - Towns, Karl-Anthony; Wallace, Ben; Harper, Derek; Price, Mark; Gasol, Pau; Terry, Jason; Smith, J.R.: I mean, sure, you have Ben Wallace and KAT, but are you really coming at me with a starting backcourt with a combined 15 DREB%? Yikes. Also, either a) JR Smith is your starting SF or B) you did not draft a SF. That seems troublesome. All that being said, your aggregated numbers look pretty good so maybe you know something secret and cool. 35 – 40 wins.
Updated final projections: The defense and rebounding sticks, but so does the division, 36 – 41 wins
HDS1 - Rodman, Dennis; Johnson, Magic; McAdoo, Bob; Murphy, Troy; Rollins, Tree; Love, Kevin; Moore, Johnny: I am going to share a snippet of an SM exchange I had with HDS1:
My issues with Rodman:
- No usage on my first pick means I have to pick it up later and the later you go in the draft, the worse the available usage gets.
- He plays SF if you use the right season, which means I have lost a prime position to get enough 3s, of which I think you need at least 450 to have a shot.
- Given the usage that is available in later rounds, you often end up a little MID% heavy.
In order to get value out of his defense, so he isn't being wasted on just SFs, I have to get at least one big man who is effective at SF.
There are usually two builds I like with Rodman. One is two lead guards who are high usage and efficient, but not enough assists to be a solo guard. Something like a combo A. Hardaway and Manu or Manu and Jrue Holiday or something along those lines. Then I get a PF/C combo of one low usage one medium usage, high shooting, high paint guys. Like Buck Williams Domantas Sabonis. Doesn't have to be these guys but it is an example.
The other is one stud guard, a bunch of solid rotation guys and Dirk. Dirk doesn't usually get drafted because of his low rebounding for the position, but if you pick one of the seasons where he can reasonably defend SFs, I love the fit of him with Rodman. McHale is another amazing fit with Rodman.
I do like the Murphy and Love picks. I hate the Rollins pick and I do not understand why anyone would draft Johnny Moore. 35 – 40 wins.
Updated final projections: So many turnovers and you can’t rebound those, 34 – 39 wins
isacqbs58 - Chamberlain, Wilt; Grant, Horace; Nance, Larry; Green, Danny; Nelson, Jameer; Pierce, Ricky; Christie, Doug: By my accounting, isacqbs58 has a lot of minutes to fill and not a lot of money, which is typical of teams that draft Wilt in this format. I kind of see what you were doing here but also you drafted two SFs with picks 2 and 3, you drafted great fits with picks 4 and 5, and then you got drunk af and picked Pierce/Christie in the 6
th. 23 – 28 wins.
Updated final projections: Yikes, 15 – 20 wins
jackedjamie - Whiteside, Hassan; Nash, Steve; Mutombo, Dikembe; McMillan, Nate; Biyombo, Bismack; Beaubois, Rodrigue; Moreland, Eric: Total disregard for fouls and turnovers, probably not enough threes, but does everything else at an elite level. I am not sure how much more I can say about this team. 33 – 38 wins.
Updated final projections: Kobe? 31 – 36 wins
jcred5 - Malone, Karl; Pippen, Scottie; Noah, Joakim; Siakam, Pascal; Beverley, Patrick; Lin, Jeremy; Monroe, Greg: This is a lot of midrange shooting. I kind of like the load up on non PG assists and then draft Pat Bev idea. There is definitely a cohesive thought out strategy with this team. I love the Nets Lin season as a guard backup. That Siakam season is so nice but I can’t see how you start him on this team. Monroe is a fine backup for Malone. 42 – 47 wins.
Updated final projections: That division is just too tough, 40 – 45 wins
mikee1 - Barkley, Charles; Walton, Bill; Irving, Kyrie; Blaylock, Mookie; Beal, Bradley; Okafor, Emeka; Evans, Reggie: That was a pretty big trade to then draft Irving way before he is normally drafted. I am a well-documented “Mookie is trash in the sim” -guy. I suspect you are going with a lower usage Barkley than I recommend. Beal is so ******* good and such a steal, but also a poor fit on this team. Okafor and Evans are fine. 36 – 41 wins.
Updated final projections: This team isn’t stopping anyone and that is not the Beal season I expected, 33 – 38 wins
mptrey - O'Neal, Shaquille; Marion, Shawn; Bledsoe, Eric; Covington, Robert; Favors, Derrick; Cousins, Demarcus; Marshall, Kendall: Shaq, Marion, Bledsoe, Covington and Favors is like a blueprint for a team that I would obsessively build. There is so much to like here. Great shooting, good enough rebounding, elite defense, positional flexibility, solid TO%. This won’t be the best team but it is my favorite team and the team that I think I could take the guts of and make into a powerhouse. 46 – 51 wins.
Updated final projections: This team rocks, 49 – 54 wins
NotoriousJ - Howard, Dwight; Simmons, Ben; Vucevic, Nikola; Boerwinkle, Tom; Harris, Joe; Johnson, James; McRoberts, Josh: Not enough threes but lots of fouls and turnovers. I actually have this team as the 4
th worst turnover team and the 2
nd worst fouling team. It also seems a little PNT% heavy. The Defense looks like it has a chance of being REAL BAD. However, NotoriousJ almost always builds good teams, plus the rebounding and eFG look pretty good. NotoriousJ bump = 37 – 42 wins.
Updated final projections: I could see anything with this team but I will keep it to a five win window, 38 – 43 wins
Pharrop - Curry, Stephen; Chandler, Tyson; Harrell, Montrezl; Ray, Clifford; O'Quinn, Kyle; Gay, Rudy; Nance Jr., Larry: If you didn’t attach any owner names or context and just showed me a list of players drafted attached to a number, I would say this is the best team. Having a Chandler-Harrell combo, with so much high efficiency PNT scoring tied to Steph’s god status from PER is basically impossible to gameplan for. Pharrop has combined this with outstanding defense. The tertiary numbers look good. This is a great build. 48 – 53 wins.
Updated final projections: I wish the fouls and turnover were better but I like everything else and there are 12 gimme wins in the division, 46 – 51 wins
Redbooda - Jordan, Michael; Erving, Julius; Gilmore, Artis; Cheeks, Maurice; Wallace, Rasheed; Jefferson, Al; Wall, John: Congrats for unlocking the achievement where you get to play at a $55M cap. Also, you win the “devoted to MID%” award. 15 – 20 wins.
Updated final projections: This team isn’t good at anything besides defense and the minutes are low, 15 – 20 wins
Robusk - Robinson, David; Conley, Mike; Holiday, Jrue; Bogut, Andrew; Williams, Marvin; Evans, Tyreke; Collins, John: My usual team style, with less rebounding and more fouls. 45 – 50 wins.
Updated final projections: The team is still meh but the division is tasty, 50 – 55 wins
Seapilots - Malone, Moses; Duncan, Tim; Rondo, Rajon; Barry, Brent; Harris, Tobias; Hill, George; Green, JaMychal: This team has a lot of defense, passing, rebounding, manageable fouls and turnovers. However, I think the shooting numbers are too poor to win consistently. I profile this as one of those teams where their road record is remarkably similar to their home record. 39 – 44 wins.
Updated final projections: The team is decent but this is the hardest division, 37 – 42 wins
tarheel1991 - Harden, James; Wade, Dwyane; Outlaw, Bo; Davis, Ed; Gadzuric, Dan; Doncic, Luka; Dalembert, Samuel: I actually had to build this team in the draft center to try and get a grip on what you are doing, what seasons you are using and how they fit together. It has always been obvious to me that you value offensive rebounding more than me, and given the amount of bricks that Wade, Harden and Luka are going to put up, you will need every bit of it. If I have the seasons right, it looks like you are rolling out 18 points of usage in the starting lineup, with 111 as your cumulative rate. That is pretty high for a lowish cap league like this. Your rebounds seem pretty filthy, your assists are solid, and the defense is good enough, although if I have the Gadzuric and Davis seasons right, Outlaw is the only person who can provide elite defense across the 3, 4 and 5 – so essentially one elite backcourt defender and one elite front court defender. All the complaints about how much you spent on usage from the draft, it certainly looks like you have enough money left to build a decent bench. I really hate Luka’s shooting numbers for that usage rate. All logic points to this team not being great, but history demonstrates that my logic is prone to underestimating your teams so… 39 – 44 wins.
Updated final projections: the Lord is with thee, 37 – 42 wins
tau1624 - Jordan, DeAndre; Leonard, Kawhi; Jokic, Nikola; Ibaka, Serge; Valanciunas, Jonas; Tinsley, Jamaal; Faried, Kenneth: I would say DeAndre is the most overrated top 20 pick in the ODL but it is way too on brand for me. Kawhi where he was drafted here is a steal. Jokic is a plausible fit given how little the other options do dumb stuff. Every other pick here is intelligently filling gaps. At this point tau1624 almost never makes any mistakes. I think the one issue I have is that this teams needs to pick up A LOT of threes on the bench. 44 – 49 wins.
Updated final projections: Have fun with this division boss, 43 – 48 wins
thomcat - James, LeBron; Drummond, Andre; Marshall, Donyell; Webber, Chris; Jackson, Mark; Marjanovic, Boban; Perkins, Kendrick: Rounds 1- 4: Brilliance. Round 4 – 6: Why? There is a lot of good defense, rebounding, and efficiency on this squad. However, it feels a little light on threes and a little heavy on turnovers. There is also some dependency on getting quality bench usage which is a challenge given how much money left I peg you at. 28 – 33 wins.
Updated final projections: You never downgrade you LeBron, 28 – 33 wins
ysw128 - Antetokounmpo, Giannis; Green, Draymond; Billups, Chauncey; Parish, Robert; Oladipo, Victor; West, David; Jones, Edgar: God ******* damn if this team does not love to turn the ball over. Aside from that, the defense is stellar, the rebounding is real good, the assists look great. I don’t love the remaining budget. You did pick up several players later than they normally get drafted. I think the strengths should be able to offset the problems here, but I am worried about the bench. 36 – 41 wins.
Updated final projections: I could type out bad fouls and turnovers for the 20
th time or talk about how good this defense is, 38 – 43 wins
