we play a triangle/zone (3-2)

He’s probably one of my best players but I have tons of depth at 2-3.

i think he can score at any of those positions but best at 2 and 4.

normally, I would make him the backup at the 2,3,4 and 5 and let him play 20ish minutes but his stamina is so high I am likely wasting minutes that way. With a 90 stamina I can get 30-32 minutes if I start him.

in a vacuum, where would you start him and why?

I will move him around vs man teams. I am leaning towards the 4 but really like the idea of him at the two.

Love him as a zone SF. You can very easily switch zone sets with him at 3. Very efficient 18/game, maybe even a little more if he’s a good FT shooter. I would start him at SF, and have him backup whichever position you’re weakest on the bench, from 2-5.

i like him a lot as a zone SF, too. i think in the 3-2 he's still good on defense obviously but it feels like he's kinda at his worst defensively at the 4. i feel like he brings so much to the 3, quality reb, quality bh/pass, great defense and scoring. seems to me that is his best position, and i agree with shoe i would value the flexibility of the 3-2 vs 2-3, but even on a 3-2 100% of the time, i'm probably going SF.

First Q: What color is his REB potential? I'd love him at the 4 if REB will get to the neighborhood of ~75.

If it's red at 65 then I agree with others keep him at the 3. He'll be a beast in the zone. Great catch!

Follow-up question: Was he a projected DI player or DII?

must you? running triangle/zone? start him at the 3 and slide him right? his defense is ok at the 4 but it really would suck to have him over there all the time.

Yeah looking at Sonoma St, I agree. He’ll have to play the 4. The freshmen are not good enough to plug in to a starting role and pull their weight this year, you’d be giving up too much to get him at his “optimal” position at the 3, net loss. This is one of those instances where a players versatility really pays off for you, if your team ends up imbalanced for whatever reason, it’s nice to have a guy like this.

He looks very similar to a player I had recently running the same sets in D2. Guy was rated a top 150 PG, but his ratings looked more like he could develop in to a very useful SF, a spot I needed. By his Sr year I was moving him anywhere between the 1 and 4, all depended on matchups. He ended up being CPOY and 2nd team All American his Sr year for me.

Oh if he’s maxed I’m less enthused about playing him at the 4 tbh. But still would do it because I think he’s that good.

Good D2 PF. Totally adequate, he can start for a contender for sure. Shot blocking is low for zone, but that elite D will compensate. Would be near elite at the 3, but he’ll definitely do at the 4.
