Welcome to FC Dynasty Cup XII. The Cup XI Champion, Rushmore FC, is back to defend their title and gets the honor of the pre-tournament #1 seed (always the first listed team in Group A.)

We have a full house - 32 teams for the first time in Cup history. That makes for a simple Knockout Round configuration. The 1st and 2nd place teams advance out of each Group and all Knockout qualifiers play in the First Round. If you like technical stuff, the next several paragraphs will be the highlight of your day...

The following tournament format and rules will apply.
.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
The tournament will be split into multiple stages, a group play followed by knockout rounds. Teams will be eliminated at the end of each stage until a champion is crowned. This champion will lay claim to glory and shall have bragging rights over all teams in all worlds for a very short period of time.

Group Stage
Each team is initially assigned to a group. Group play will consist of a round robin, with each team playing home and away against the other teams within their group. Points will be based on the following - 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.

Determination as to which teams will advance to the knockout rounds will be in the following order - stage points - goal differential - away goals - goals scored. If the teams are in an absolute tie after all tiebreakers, a coin flip using random.org's random number service will determine who advances and/or who gets what seed.

Knockout Stage
Each round will be a home/away set with the winner being based on aggregate goals. If aggregate goals are tied, the higher seed will host the lower seed in an additional game. If that game is tied, the lower seed will then host the higher seed and so on. As long as both coaches are scheduling games, the round will continue until one side wins outright. If one team fails to schedule for three consecutive days, that team will forfeit the round and the other team will advance.

The eight group winners will automatically get seeds #1-8 and the eight 2nd place finishers will be seeded #9-16.

The First Round will consist of the following:

#1 seed vs #16 seed
#2 seed vs #15 seed
#3 seed vs #14 seed
#4 seed vs #13 seed
#5 seed vs #12 seed
#6 seed vs #11 seed
#7 seed vs #10 seed
#8 seed vs #9 seed

The Quarterfinals will consist of the following:

#1/16 versus #8/9
#2/15 versus #7/10
#3/14 versus #6/11
#4/13 versus #5/12

The Semifinals will consist of the following:

The #1 seed quarterfinals bracket winner versus the #4 seed quarterfinals bracket winner
The #2 seed quarterfinals bracket winner versus the #3 seed quarterfinals bracket winner

Championship Round
The Championship Round will match the two remaining teams in a home and away series with the winner being based on aggregate goals. If an aggregate goal tie occurs, the host of the additional game will be decided by a coin flip using random.org's random number service. The Championship Round is the only round not subject to a set time frame. Scheduling is open-ended and tiebreakers are unlimited until a Champion has proven their worth on the pitch.

TOURNAMENT RULES
Each stage of the tournament, other than the Championship, will have a specific time frame in which all games must be scheduled. Failure to schedule games within the allotted time frame will result in a forfeiture. On the evening of the last day for each stage, all games that have not been scheduled will be deemed a 0-0 draw so that the stage can be completed. The team failing to issue (or accept) a challenge will be awarded no points for the drawn game. Any team with more than one forfeiture will be withdrawn from the tournament and cannot advance.

Entering the final 72 hours of each stage's time frame, any team that has not received a challenge by an opponent (or has sent a challenge that has not been accepted) should post a request to the other coach here or, if the coach does not have posting rights, via sitemail to gomiami1972, who will post the request on your behalf in this forum thread. I would prefer, if you do not have posting rights, to send any requests through me rather than sitemailing each other. That will cut down on the volume of mail being shipped about.

If you receive a challenge in the same slot you have sent a challenge, please accept the incoming challenge and re-issue your own. If you receive multiple challenges in the same slot, choose one ASAP to give the team you declined as much time as possible to issue a new request.

Time Frame to Schedule Group Stage Games - June 25th thru July 7th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 7th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 7th.)
Time Frame to Schedule First Round Games - July 12th thru July 20th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 20th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 20th.)
Time Frame to Schedule Quarterfinal Games - July 20th thru July 28th (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 28th. This does not mean the games must be played by the 28th.)
Time Frame to Schedule Semifinal Games - July 27th thru August 3rd (Challenges must be sent/accepted by 7pm on the 3rd. This does not mean the games must be played by the 3rd.)

Knockout Results

The Knockout Rounds will consist of the First Round, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and a 3rd Place game if both teams are willing to participate. Results are updated after the 7:00 pm game each night. Individual game results show the home team always to the LEFT of the bracketed score. Teams that forfeit a game due to a failure to schedule cannot advance. A full explanation as to tiebreakers can be found in the Tournament Format and Rules post above. Numbers in bold between team names represent aggregate goals. FC Kingston and jmjtrain out of World 80 have shown the heart of a Champion by taking the FC Dynasty Cup XII title, defeating butterfiles united and aubie8 from World 92 with an aggregate of 5-3. The opening game went to Kingston 4-2 on the road as they came back to the States to try to wrap up their first Cup title. Neither team had made the Championship round before as there were some nerves present once both squads hit the pitch. Che Cazorla drew butterfiles within a goal as he scored off a header very early in the 7th minute with a shot that Kingston goalie Abrahan Sabino should have saved but couldn't handle cleanly as it dribbled past him to make the aggregate 4-3.

The score seemed to settle down the players as both teams got down to the business of playing good soccer. Kingston almost scored a goal off a rising shot by Quong Ikeda that sailed just over the crossbar and denied the Kingston forward his best chance to grab a share of the individual scoring honor and butterfiles almost tied the aggregate when a Rogelio Olivo hit the side netting, missing the near corner by a few inches. Kingston finally gave themselves some breathing room when forward Maky Guerrero's shot in the 68th minute deflected off the leg of a butterfiles defender and rolled past a stranded goalie Adrián Jared. butterfiles tried one final rally in the last 10 minutes with several quality scoring chances but couldn't get the job done as the final score ended at 1-1. As soon as the final whistle blew, the 42,947 Kingston fans rushed the field to celebrate with the Kingston players their first Cup title.

The L'Orteil D'or award goes to FC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk forward Volodya Zablosky and VB Hibernian's Mohamed Saylor, who amazingly held on to the lead despite being eliminated several rounds ago. The winning goal tally was 13 goals and these two will share the honor in the history books. Take your hats off to our runner up, butterfiles united and aubie8 who had an outstanding run to the runner-up spot. Without further ado, the hardware will now be distributed to their rightful owners.

When I finalize the Group Stage pairings, I will send out a sitemail reminding all of you that the tourney is beginning and that you can start sending out challenges. A lot of teams have similar names but every user ID is unique. The easiest way to make sure you are challenging the correct team is to copy/paste the user ID to find the correct club.

If you see any mis-spellings in team names or user IDs, please point them out. I'll try to double-check before the tourney begins but sometimes I don't catch them all.

I'm not going to send the reminder sitemail until tomorrow morning but everything looks ready to go. Rushmore FC and bert_fischer, your title defense officially begins now so LET"S GET IT ON!

Feel free to start scheduling at your convenience. The time frame for Group games is June 25th thru July 7th. If we need more time because of the July 4th holiday, I'll add a day or two. Remember, games must be scheduled by the 7th, not necessarily played by the 7th. You'll play a home and away against each opponent, so you'll be sending and receiving a challenge with each team in your group - in other words, you'll be playing six games.

Spread your outgoing challenges out. Slot 10 is as good as Slot 1. If everybody uses the first three slots, there will be a traffic jam. So, here's the rule of thumb I always suggest - If you receive an incoming challenge in the same slot you have sent an outgoing challenge, please accept the incoming challenge and re-issue your own. If you receive multiple incoming challenges in the same slot, choose one ASAP to give the team you auto-declined as much time as possible to issue a new request.

Make sure you are challenging the correct team. I have verified that each User ID is spelled correctly. You can always copy/paste the user ID from the participating teams list. There might be several teams with similar names but every ID is unique. Please be aware that, if you add an extra space to the end of a user ID, you may not pull up anything in your search result. Remove the extra space and magically the team you are looking for appears.

OK, everyone. It's time to lace up your cleats and go into battle. Best of luck and show no mercy - goal differential is a tiebreaker and there is almost a guarantee that the two 3rd place teams that advance are going to be surviving on razor thin margins.

We seem to have a good following in World 62, which placed five entries...that's more teams entering the Cup than some worlds have teams, period. Impressive.
