Import the draft utility from baseball.

Yeah, why does baseball have this and we don't??

It can't work for the NBAsim? What is the deal with this? I live on the other side of the friggin globe and to say drafting is inconvenient as hell is an understatement.

And.. we are in the middle of the ODL draft now.

seble, you can skim that thread in the owners forum to see what kinds of issues there are because of no draft utility.

Hmm, not a bad guess, ash. Better explanation for Murphy's rating than anything I can come with.

Yeah. I disagree with having defensive rebounding as part of the defensive rating in the first place. AFAIK, defensive rating is used only on opponent's fg%. If this is the case, then def reb% does not belong in that equation. If I'm wrong, then that's another story.
I concur, having a high defensive rebounding % has nothing to do with whether you can defend your position - if anything it probably means that you arent covering the guy taking the shot very often so it probably is a better indicator of 'not playing defense'

The draft utility is a program for baseball that keeps up with who has been picked.

You can view picks by owner, by position, and by draft order.

There are no duplicate picks because the utility will not let you do it.

It also sets the draft order and times.

IMO, the listed position of a player should have no effect on his defensive rating.

this is nice.

but I actually thought it could also let you list the order of preferred players you wanted to draft if you weren't going to be around during your time slot and it would just draft the first available guy for you (basically like what other sites do with their fantasy games).

but I guess not.

Not making a pick for you is the one big flaw in the draft utility.

Seble, hope you're still reading this after all these posts. On a positive note, I really enjoy the WIS product and was spending borderline obsessive amounts of time on it, which is probably the main reason I've tried to cut back. But in terms of ways to improve it, a lot of good ideas have been well spoken for here, so I guess I'll throw my two cents in on the frequency of updates issue.

In the past I'd get frustrated with updates that would effect squads mid-season, as they would often derail teams I'd put a lot of effort into building under the existing rules, and changing the rules midstream is one sure way to upset the consitituency.

On the other hand, we seem to be in the midst of the opposite extreme, and very quickly all the lineups seem to be morphing into Moses, Rodman, Peja, Allen, and Chauncey. It's remarkable that given the thousands of player seasons to choose from, every WIS vet seems to be caught in the dilema of either cloning a winner, or creatively losing.

To me there's a happy medium, and that is to have more frequent updates whenever inspiration strikes, whether big or small, which will at least let us users know that we haven't been abandoned, WITH THE CAVEAT that whatever changes are made do not effect leagues already in progress.

All the best, ya'll.

7/7/2009 12:06 AM
doesnt have to be frequent updates - if you dont want cookie cutters you need to balance the impact of the various stat categories on outcome and/or recalibrate the salary valuation so there is less imbalance between offense and defense
7/7/2009 7:57 AM
Oh, also, you guys have permission to use player names, obviously, but how about player images? It'd be pretty cool to be able to see the squad we've built in uniforms of our own design, like, say, Wilt and MJ together wearing pink "Flamanthers" jerseys.

P.S. Could you do something about your the WIS NFL game? For whatever flaws your NBA game has, it's a vigintillion* times better than the NFL interface, which doesn't even let you sort by stats when drafting and so far as I can tell has never even attempted to change. Which is a shame, because there's so much potential there.

True, Monkee, it seems that defense is so overpriced compared to it's lack of impact. And when the 08-09 Zach Randolph and Troy Murphy are rated as two of the best defensive stoppers ever, something's smelling too good in Stinkville.

league team rankings has self and opp averages and totals how about differentials?

Seble - Look at the current top 25.

Sly's unoriginal teams, ELeibo's Moses/Rodman cutters, and Gachgook's Pod's dominate the list and are breaking what I feel to be hallowed records on this SIM.

We need a new engine, or changes to the current one. It is predictable, full of flaws, and way too damn easy to manipulate.

Give me a response, please.

Don't mess with my Unoriginal Bastard teams. They'll gitcha.
