BYOP Taken Player and Draft Forum Topic

Anyway, I'm going to be weak at C, 2B and P - might be able to help people at 1B, SS and OF. If someone wants to trade players, let's talk. Thanks.

I agree with no trading of draft spots. Who is up by the way?

Todak and the 1994 Expos are up.

I will eliminate one problem by stating I will NEVER trade draft picks.

I realize I have an advantage in the draft. That is one big reason I chose this team. All the owners who took 1927/28 teams had to know going in they would have a hard time in the draft.

But I still have the HUGE disadvantage that all 1800's teams have playing against modern teams. No one on my team owns a glove. I predict I will have at least double the league average in errors.

My team will have to score a ton of runs to make up for all the UNearned runs they give up. I expect to lose a lot of one run games because of my defense or lack of defense.

Did anyone site mail tdoak that he is up ?

I strongly believe there should be no trading of draft spots

What should we do about the trade that went down with Gehrig?

How is this trade going to suddenly be overturned at this point? I didn't break any rules. The trade rules were in place and no one argued them before the draft began. I traded within the set rules. Now the first round is almost over and suddenly a couple of you are saying the rules need to be changed and my trade over turned? Frankly, that's bullshit at this point.

This was all debated after the trade was made and it was decided that nothing was illegal and we moved on. If it had been overturned then or it was decided that the rules were different, I'd have been fine with that. Now we're 19 picks in. Changing things things now means we have to start the draft over. I'm going to have a real problem with retroactive changes.

I concur with verbal kint. If as a league we decide to make any changes I don't think we can retroactively go back and undo anything that was done.

I think if you outlaw trading of draft picks then it might cause the teams that are drafting against each other to tank at the end of the season to get ahead of rivals in the draft since there are no other ways to get ahead.

Anyways, there are points for both sides so the only way to solve this is to make a vote at some point this season if this is a big enough issue to people. However, any change should take effect for next season's draft and leave this season's draft under the rules that it started with.

OK, here's the thing (please read this entirely)...

We are still very much at the beginning of what hopefully becomes a multi-year, many-season progressive league. I think people are just exploring the rules in order to have the best league possible.

From what I've see, it becomes difficult to keep progressive leagues going. If people feel there are shady deals going down or that they are unfairly handicapped they'll be more likely to walk away. So the better and tighter we regulate the rules the better the league will be in the long run and the more likely it will be to survive.

Now, I don't want to cast aspersions, but we already have some reasons to be concerned. For instance, we have at least two owners who signed up with their first posts in WIS history AND these will be their first teams in WIS history. I don't know about you, but I just wasn't that sophisticated when I first joined WIS to jump into the forums and find a newly launching progressive league to join. So, these team seem suspicious to me and yes, I'm concerned about it.

As much as we'd like to believe everyone is on the up-and-up I've unfortunately encountered those who are not. We need to structure the league in such a way as to protect ourselves from subterfuge. Otherwise we won't have a league at all.

As the saying goes, better safe than sorry. So I'm in favor of taking our time and flushing this out now, even if that requires some backing up.

I'm fine with not trading draft picks. I thought it was a good idea at first but now I see the problem. At the same time it would be unfair for me redo what is already done. So that trade will stand. I don't want to start again that would be crazy. The logistical thing is if any else wants to do and I already let someone it seems unfair to that owner. I will have to say that the rule start after next season. What I'm hoping is everyone won't do it and it will work itself off but I can't restrict an owner unless all owners agree to do that.

This league is unique and still needs tweeking of course. I'm a relatively new theme league creator and I appreciate any incoming suggestions to make this league fun and exciting for all.

If there is no trading of draft picks then I am going to re-allow drafting out of order if you are the next team that can select a player and another team can't select that player. It for one speeds up the draft. I know longer have to wait for the last team to select a player anymore which is good.
9/27/2009 4:55 PM
I update this extensively when I'm up and not in school so it should not be a problem.
9/27/2009 4:55 PM
I don't know if anyone cares but I have been updating the rules in the posting in the classified section as we adjust them. So if you need clarity on something I've been trying to do that for everyone. Trading will still be allowed overall. just player for player from the next season beyond and no draft selections. I agree with most things Teal leo stated except everyone did select the team they wanted and could of changed anytime before the draft and in real draft situations teams who know what other team need are trade ahead all the time to get the player they want. It's not like they are giving up nothing. Like I said though since we started the draft with trading allowed I can't take it away because someone all ready did it and I'm not starting again. If all owners come forth and say no more now it will stop and been done with it then fine.

I'm sorry if everyone is not happy with what is going on so far but I'm trying the best I can. This first year is certainly a learning curve already and trying to make this idea/league the best and great for many years to come.
