to the first part agree, to the second part disagree. but that may be because so many people recognize the clear deficiencies in the current ranking system and thus don't give much weight to it.

whatever, I sure have not seen using just RPI to determine seedings throughout this thread from Z or dan, I have seen that no one cares about rankings from you guys, again, that is just wrong, it is one of the most important parts of the game, now if you change the rules, rankings don't matter to seedings, well, then you have a whole different question, like I said, I did not know that was on the table, if it is not, then RANKINGS NEED TO BE FIXED, if they don't determine seedings, rank em alphabetically for all I care

Does seeding really matter? I may be totally off base, but it seems like there is a lot more parity here than RL. I know that there are tons of upsets, but is that strictly a seed issue, or are there just a lot of teams that are capable of beating anyone on any given Sunday?

Yes and No. I feel that if I can get my team into the tourney we have a chance to win it all. I have done it with a 1 seed, a 5 seed, a 4 seed... I have made the E8 with 8/9 seeds... Yes it can matter and because of that whatever is used to select seeds needs to work but your seed doesn't always matter, imo.

I get asked what is the best way to win it all by several coaches, #1 is far and away, recruit the best team in your conference, or ideally in your world, #2 is hope you get a great draw.

It is also very frustrating to coach a mid major team well, work to get a #3 seed, then play a ACC team in round one that is 75-100 points better than you.

It is also very frustrating to see another competitior face 3 or 4 consecutive low 700 mid majors with his 815 elite team, while you are facing all tough competition.

yes, this all happens real life too, but all we are asking for is a fair fight out of the gate.

The RPI is completely silly. I am not convinced that it is any better than the current ranking system, as crappy as it is.

No question, OR. I've been on both sides of that. A couple seasons ago I was a 2 seed w. Montana, and in the second round played a 7th-seeded GTech team with five senior starters that had won the ACC regular season crown (and ended up making the F4). My being a 2 seed to their 7 was a joke.

I've never had a D1 team until this season so I don't really know much about the EE process but people saying that guys who would be drafted in the 2nd round don't leave early are very wrong. Last season alone 7 underclassmen were drafted in the 2nd round including 2 sophomores, in the 08 draft there were 8 underclassmen drafted in the 2nd round including 2 freshman and 1 sophomore. I'm sure there were also underclassmen that weren't drafted, but I don't know for sure.

I honestly feel that teams that are higher ranked perform better in the nt. The engine may account for this somehow in deciding the outcome of games. Ive had really good teams that I screwed up and got bad seeds or bad rankings and they do not perform as well in the nt as ones that may be less talented and are better ranked. food for thought

I definitely know this feeling - that said the higher the seeding the better the match-ups in most cases - which could play a role in feeling this way.

Back to the point of the thread, why could'nt WIS add a "Draft Buzz" meter to each player in D1. As the season goes on each player's "Draft Buzz" meter will rise or fall. So atleast a coach would know what his player(s) are thinking. If your Freshman PF has high NBA aspirations at the beginning of the season and it is still high at the end of the season, he is gone. Seems like WIS could solve this problem pretty easily.
This doesn't seem to difficult to add. Maybe make it even easier by sending emails from the assistant coach alerting you if there are:
- rumors that a player might leave
- interest from pro teams (scouts in the stands for a certain player)

or an email from the player letting you know that they are considering leaving early

The most efficient way to do it would be to give a meaningful indication during recruiting, as others have suggested previously.

Right now, all 4- and 5-star guys have the same message regarding likelihood of going pro. If they actually tailored the messages to align with the recruit, that would a). make a lot more sense and b). add another level of texture and strategy to recruiting.

There are meaningful indications right now.

referring to comments from evals and psych evals?

Yes. You can also get them from other sources.
