I could be wrong, but I don't believe you can trade your 2009 team that you were given at the start....

Why would you think that? Not mentioned in the rules. If every other team, player and card can be dealt, I'd think those teams could be also.

Bastan, last time this league was run it took forever to get started because people were trying to get trade responses. Might be a good idea to set a cutoff for pre-season trading.

can a person trade one player out of the 45-49sb category or does the whole card (4pts) need to be dealt for 4 points value in return???

The card can be traded now, though it does not need to be a deal bringing back exactly four points. Individual players obtained from the card can only be traded after the season begins.
