Selig should grow some balls... Topic

And I'm saying, if you're going to go "What about the children?", that you can use Galaragga and Joyce as fine examples of how to handle adversity. No crying to momma or daddy to fix it, just accept it for what it is and move on.

The point is, as Mike said, umps do this everyday.

How many times do we hear people (fans, players, coaches, media) calling for a guy's head because he missed a call at first base? Whether it's followed by an out, or eventually leads to a run, guys vent on the field and that's the end of it.

Hell, I'll bet there are at least 10 bad calls every season that eventually determine the outcome of a game. This didn't.

As I said, I would have liked to see Galarraga get the credit he deserved, but the outcry is ridiculous in the sense that we see this (and much worse) throughout the season. The only reason there's an uproar now is because of WHEN it happened.

There are just too many variables and arguments to be made for overturning even more calls if you overturn this one.

You didn't answer my question. You say that all that is at stake here is a feel-good moment. What's at stake gong the other way?

Absolutely nothing that I can see.

So: might as well get the feel good moment.

Do some volunteer work instead. You'll get your feel-good moment AND help someone.

And, for the record, the feel-good moment has passed for this. The horse has been beaten. He is dead. I doubt the main characters will get any sense of accomplishment or redemption at this point. Time to move on.

Because that's what every review system in the whole world does.

NFL: when do we review? Situationally. A coach throws a flag, or it's within x of the end of the game, or it was y kind of play.

Not all the time. Only in certain situations

Moron.
The NFL has an officially sanctioned instant replay review system in place, with rules as to how and when it is applied, while MLB does not.

And I am in favor of MLB looking at and possibly instituting an offically sanctioned instant replay review system, which can indeed be very similar to what the NFL has.

But until it does, they really cannot use instant replay to overturn an umpires judgement call in MLB. Because, well, there's no offical mechanism in place to do so.

But we'll all be shiny, happy people if Galaragga gets a perfect game!!!!

So your theory is that: given the choice between the current state of affairs continuing indefinitely, and being credited with a perfect game, Galarraga would just shrug and say "screw it."

Seems sensible. If you're a moro... oh, right.

Actually, that's exactly what he did.

Do you follow baseball at all?

Someone gave him that choice?

When?

Too long.

Dumbass.

I fully support the comissioner stepping in and announcing that, effective last week/month/year, there's a new rule:

Any call which should have ended a game, but did not, is reviewable by his office. Any unimpeachable video evidence which indicates an error was made, will result in a call being reversed, and a game being ended.

Because being right is what's most important.

A ball beat a runner to a bag, an umpire got it wrong, and it's fixable. There's literally no reason not to fix it. How do I know? Because STILL nobody has presented one. (Saying "bah, screw it" doesn't count as a reason)
