Interesting - I agree that seems like a reasonable disparity at the D2 level in Smith.  But...

Maybe the real issue then is with the FCP at the **D3 level** under the new engine.  I don't have access to Smith, but here's a similar breakdown for Allen's top 10 D3 teams (currently in the last couple days of the NT)...

FCP teams:
#1 Goucher - 22 FPG
#2 St. Olaf - 22 FPG
#3 St. Mary's - 24 FPG
#8 Philadelphia Biblical - 20 FPG
#9 Conn College - 23 FPG

Non-FCP teams:
#4 Lynchburg - 17 FPG
#5 Denison - 12 FPG
#6 Lebanon Valley - 17 FPG
#7 Ohio Northern - 15 FPG
#10 Thomas - 16 FPG

That's an average of 7 more FPG for the top 10 teams in Allen D3 that are running FCP - almost 50% more fouls than the non-FCP teams.  And a significantly larger disparity than the 2 FPG difference at D2 (Smith).

And note also that ALL of the listed FCP teams at D2 had fewer fouls than any of the FCP teams at D3.  Almost as if the engine functions in such a way that the FCP can't be run effectively (i.e., without excess fouling) by teams with D3-type rankings - even the best D3 teams.  (At least based on these two small samples of top 10 teams.)

bluespruce - i have a similar feeling, although i have no d3 teams. it seems like in d1, because the ratings are so high, press teams are significantly less plagued by the foul trouble than d2 teams. i would imagine the same trend to extend to d3 teams.

Any word on if seble is actually looking at this stuff?

I'm assuming he is, but I think we're past the point of wondering if it's working properly.  There are things that need to be fixed, such as halftime adjustments, that we really don't need to wait on anymore.

I know a couple of veteran coaches who are close to calling it quits - people who stuck through the "potential" problems - and that really is a shame.
I just heard back from seble on this issue and he said that he is going to be reverting back to the old halftime adjustment logic.

Great to hear, both because the new logic was not working properly, and because it does mean he is listening and actively looking to make improvements.

My sense is that he is swamped with requests/ideas/feedback right now and he's trying to sort the wheat from the chaff. Hopefully sooner rather than later ...

Now I realize that the old engine had plenty of issues, but was halftime logic ever one of them?  I never had any problems with it before, so why would it be changed in the new release?  Seems like the common sense approach would have been to fix the things that weren't working right and leave the things that were working alone.  Or am I missing something here?  This is starting to get a little frustrating........

Here's another example of the free throw problem. This is a Sweet 16 game.
The free throws were 43-8 and Bellarmine had 3 guards foul out, two after playing less than 17 minutes.

Caldwell played zone, with medicore IQs,  and +4, which I thought would increase their fouls. But they had only 12 for the entire game. Bellarmine pressed at normal tempo.

Comparing the 4 guards on each team:

IQ- not even close:  Bellarmine's 4 guards are A+, A-, A-, A-.  Caldwell has B-, B-,B-, C+

ST:  Caldwell's average topped Bellarmine 84-81.

ATH: Bellarmine was better at 64-55

SP:  Caldwell held the advantage 94-83

The teams met earlier in the season and the fouls were reasonable.  Is there something I'm missing here?

i still think 3 pt shooting is off.  W. Washingtion (DII Naismith) has a player with 3 PER, 2 BH & 17 SPD who is 5 for 9 from beyond the arc so far this season.  we can argue "sample size" but no player with these attributes is going to hit more than 1 or 2 three point shots in a season.

With  only nine attempts it really is meaningless.  Manute Bol had a game where he hit 6 of 12.

Manute Bol didnt have a 3 PER

We met earlier and it was HCA for you as and a lot has changed in the engine regarding stamina/fouls etc sense then. I agree the fouls in this game was a joke. I also didn't mean to go straight zone, but maybe it helped foul less and be more fresh. Not sure. The game was weird thats for sure.

really?  you really think a guy with those attributes could, half way through a season, hit 5/9 3s?  i understand it's a small sample size (as I mentioned), but it is inconceivable he could hit 5/9 at any point over a series of games with those ratings.  it's as if we are rewarding a coach for exhibiting a poor strategy in letting him shoot the 3s.

What would you consider Jon Koncak's perimeter rating?

7/2/2010 10:24 PM
My per rating is probably about a 3, and I don't think I could hit 5-9 from 3p. That said, I have a very strong reb rating for a guard and a great we. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

The half time fix isnt working yet. This is the same fking sh*t Ive been ******** about all season.

http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/GameResults/BoxScore.aspx?gid=5901405

One fking 3 pter made and we go from -4 to -2. I might as well turn the halftime adjustment off. Fking joke.

And no one still knows what the type of rebounding logic is in this engine. We are a bunch of idiot BETA testers for paying to debug this crap.

More HD sharpshooters. This 8 PER STUD is 6-14 so far this year. And before anyone cries "small sample size", how many of these under 10 PER players do we have to find before we can say this engine is broke in multiple areas?
