Trading prospects for cash Topic

It's a distinction with no real difference. The 2 transactions have the same competitve result. Both result in being able to purchase the same amount of goods. No advantage is gained  using one transaction vs the other.. I offer a trade +5m in cash. I offer a trade buying an additional contract (s) for 5 m. Same result. Either way. the other side gets an additional 5m, and my side of the ledger is reduced by an additonal 5m.

Anyone mention that you can't even build a trade with cash on one side and a player on the other? Both sides have to include a player. Seems the game may be designed to prevent cash-for-prospect trades, doesn't it? At least on the surface? Just because there is a work-around, doesn't mean the intent isn't present....

No really, I swear this is true. Don;t believe me....try a trade with just a player on one side and cash on the other. When you realize the game does not allow you to do this, send a ticket asking why. First one back with the answer wins......

(Seriously, this discussion and the "Knuckelballer" dicussion are amongst the worst of the worst)

Of course there's a difference.

$190m > $185m.

Make 3 such deals, then you have $200m > $185m.

Make 3 deals with3 contracts of 5m,and your 70m payroll goes to 55. 55<70,same result.15m more to spend.

Do you understand the difference between budget and payroll?  Because it seems as if you don't.

I'll try to explain it(although I'm sure I'll get nowhere).

If you trade 15m worth of players, you do have 15m more to spend.   If you trade 15m in cash, your opponent has 15m more to spend.    In one trade, everyone is still working with 185m.   In the other trade, 30 owners are working with 185m, one is working with 170m and one is working with 200m.    If worlds were set up like that from the beginning, no one would take that 170m team.

If player salary was tied directly to player ability (i.e. all 10m players are better than all 5m players), then the whole "190 > 185" argument would make sense.

However, that's not the case in HBD and the whole argument is a straw man.

You can't legislate dumbassery out of the game.   If owners didn't make bad signings, player salary would be tied to player ability.

Of course, this leads back to my "Cash is for the lazy, stupid or both" statement.

The new jvford rule; it's ok because HBD owners are too stupid to use it properly.
4/10/2011 11:38 AM
Mike, so you're saying that any player making more than a player better than him is due to dumbassery? Got it. Can't argue with that logic.

DIAH, anyone who wins less than half his games and has trouble making the playoffs 1/3 of the time can't comment on stuff that requires intelligence.

The new jvford rule; it's ok because I declare when HBD owners are too stupid to use it properly.

Interestingly enough, I'm only for cash for prospect trades in worlds with only good, veteran owners.

So DIAH, your statement is pretty accurate.  And I draw the line at you.

The new new jvford rule: diah is a 'tard because I say so. Oh wait, that's the MikeT rule.

No offense guys.

well, jvford was right about something.

I guess there's the whole blind squirrel finding his nuts....or whatever the saying is....
