It's simple, if the 2021 versions are not out you will have to cut the players after their 2020 version. If the 2021 versions are available your players normal progression will take them into that season.
I think you should be able to hold on to rights as long as they remain with the same team. I mean people who drafted Singer and Keller probably thought a big 2021 would make those picks more important. I was going to draft Keller or Singer with the idea that his 2021 would be huge.
Keller will be close as 3 seasons/drafts may occur after 2021 posts to our universe and giving him a 4th Royal season, but Singer will not. I understood this complexity as BHeid408 explains and would have drafted and risked Singer had the league rules explained differently. The bigger concern should be whether or not Keller falls victim to free agency prior to his 2020 breakout. I'd like to hear more about how FA will work as this wrinkle causes me far more panic and has factored into my draft strategy. Will it be individualized, determined by alpha, draft position, or another mechanism?
My only other concern involves inter league play as the Phillies teams should destroy the Royals teams because those teams have access to the great pitching of the 60's as the Royals don't form until 69 and as others have noted we seem to be entering the "waste management" phase of the draft and there are 10 rounds to go. So, I am curious how that will play out.
