Mikee1: AD, Klay, Clyde Frazier, Marques Johnson, Embiid
AD is great, obviously, just have to get the right pieces around him. I wasn’t high on the Klay pick, but I do like a Frazier/Klay backcourt, provided you can add assists elsewhere in the next couple of rounds. I think this team is going to be too light on the boards. AD/Klay/Marques are all average to below average rebounders for their position. The D and efficiency will be good though.
NotoriousJ: Artis Gilmore, Rodman, Lillard, Vucevic, Faried
TONS of boards. Lillard plus elite rebounding seems like a pretty solid strategy. I think there’s a chance with the right picks in the next few rounds that this can be a contender. Still need to shore up some areas, but it’s doable. I think this might be one of those squads that has a title contender or two (the leagues that get Lillard, Vuc, Rodman’s best seasons) and misses the playoffs in others. You can still win with that strategy though.
bds9992: DeAndre Jordan, Kevin McHale, Paul George, Penny, Paul Pierce
DAJ is like the perfect frountcourt partner for McHale. They compliment each other pretty well. Paul George where you got him was a steal. Penny is a great player but he’s a little light on assists to be your lead passer. Luckily Pierce and PG each have some decent passing seasons and you might be able to assemble the pieces between the 3 of them to be solid in most leagues when it comes to passing. Interested to see if PG and Pierce both start in some leagues (which would put you a lil light on boards but would give you great perimeter scoring and good passing), or if they’re a platoon. Not sure if you’re relying too much on DeAndre’s rebounding though. Ignoring getting another rebounder for too long could put you behind on boards. Smart move getting 4 high usage guys in the first 5 rounds.
kinoa1: Duncan, Kawhi, Bobby Jones, Jerry West, Brent Barry
If anyone else would’ve drafted this, I’d say it was a bottom-half squad. But when Kinoa picks someone, it makes me go “crap...should I have taken Jerry West in the 4th?!” - I had Admiral and Kawhi last season, which is more formidable than Duncan/Kawhi, but it looks like the strategy here will be a super CLEAN (low TOs/fouls) game with good D and passing-by-committee. Obviously Kinoa will be a contender. He’s 1 for 1 in Savage. Welcome back, even though you’re gonna make my life harder.
Benhoidal: John Stockton, Julius Erving, Draymond Green, Dirk, Andrew Bogut
Stockton/Draymond/Bogut equals crazy assists. Dr J and Dirk should get a nice eFG% bonus from all of the passing around them. Dirk being able to switch with both Draymond and Bogut means he can hide him on the opponent’s worst frontcourt player. The rest of the squad is great defensively. Good start, and I’m sure Ben will make some nice picks in the next few rounds to bring it all together. Now we see if he tries to win 2 chips or send all 5 to the playoffs.
Amerk1180: Moses, Peggy Pippen, Ewing, Bledsoe, Horford
This is actually a pretty well-designed squad. Bledsoe is light on assists for a PG, but Pippen and Horford supplement him there. Moses and Ewing should hold down the paint nicely. Only real concern is perimeter shooting, IMO. Should be a top-half squad if the rest of the picks go right.
Midge: Magic, Rudy Gobert, Ray Allen, Montrezl Harrell, Dave Cowens
Midge is good at drafting specialists and making sure everyone has a role. Once he started with Magic, the strategy seemed to be: get a paint monster, a shooter, a paint defender, etc. and that’s what he did. Ray Allen stretches the floor, Rudy and Montrezl are lob threats, Magic is the engine. Not sure if Cowens was worth picking in the early 5th but I like the other 4 picks quite a bit. Allen might’ve been a slight reach but he fits the squad well. Harrell and Gobert will have crazy eFG%.
dh555: Hakeem, D-Wade, Camby, Jimmy Buckets, Terrell Brandon
Defense, boards, paint scoring, passing...got it all on lock. Shooting? Not so much...that can come later though. I like the strategic move to drop down to 24 and get 3 of the first 49 players. Not sure if Camby is a top 50 player though. I would’ve been tempted to draft George in the 3rd and tan Wade at PG. Interested to see if Butler is strictly a Wade back-up, or if he gets some run next to him too
