You probably mentioned this before, but I just wanted to revisit. If you have a veteran BL roster, is there any reason to break the bank on any coach outside of (possibly) FI? Sure, minor leaguers may be exposed to an average coaching staff for spring training, but how much of a detriment would that be? Even average coaching is better than they have in the minors. Thoughts?

I don't. Good coaching may slow decline of aging players but, if you have more than 2-4 in heavy decline, you're probably doing something wrong anyway. Just get good, reasonably-priced coaches.

Would you consider going to a 4 man rotation with this staff? If so, how would you determine the appropriate pitch count? If not, who would your SP4 and SP 5 be? My bullpen has been getting rocked lately.

No. You don't have the stamina to even consider it. Plug it in and hit recs. You'll see your SP won't even pitch 5(avg of 75 pitches). Your bullpen will be gassed in no time.

I'm looking forward to the October Surprise. What do you think it will be? Hillary's great great grandpa sold a gun to John Wilkes Booth?

isn't it possible that bronxfool is just an idiot?

It's not only possible, it's probable.

With a bit more time under our belts, have you determined any logic to the 'injury bug' and how it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't? I have guys with 20 million medical (on this team, in this season) who are going all super soilder and are getting 2-3 rediculous ratings bumps. Meanwhile, this guy has been out for 50 days and doesn't look like he will get a single recovery. I don't even think he will go back to his old ratings.

I haven't. It works as always about 90% of the time. I'm just not sure why it doesn't work the other 10%.

If you have a ML bound prospect in the rookie league absolutely raking, would you promote him imediatly or wait until his first full season to get him with the best possible coaches?
5/9/2016 11:55 AM
I seldom keep real prospects in Rookie League. I'm not progressing a guy at RL, LoA, HiA, AA, AAA, BL so wasting time with likely my worst coaches seems dumb. A legit prospect, in my minors, goes RL/LoA/HiA, AA, AAA, BL. And, on occasion, skips one of the minor league levels altogether.

You performance post brought up a few things I had been thinking about in regards to relative value. In many cases I see good players on my teams and others that just don't seem to be getting it done. If a good player under-performs, then besides park factors, I assume an owner may not be using him correctly.

SO, let me ask this: If you had a very good pitcher, what could an owner do to make that pitcher - underperform - and how could you tell?

If you had a guy like Cy Walker you were looking at, and he had say a 4.90 ERA with a 1.53 WHIP, where /what would you look at in the stats to indicate he was being misused? Could you get a few clues?

Game log. Any under 100% starts is a red flag. 2nd thing is pitch count. SIMMY bases it on DUR/STM and will give a guy with a high DUR too big of a PC. Looking at Walker, I'd set him 70/80 and bring him back on 3 days rest when possible. He's obviously set at like 90/110. Finally, look at the defense. A bad D gives teams more opportunities. Negative plays hurt WHIP/ERA and it doesn't show.
