I am going to be away and without internet for awhile and wanted to weigh in on 2000 before I left because I actually thought it was an uptick musically (over 1999) for me. 2001 I remember being a good year.......... I know I bought a ton of stuff I still listen to. Here's my quick 2000 list (subject to amendment)

1. Don Henley --- "Inside Job" (This one is weird. It's by far his best solo LP but kinda stiffed commercially---it really rocks hard, the lyrics are killer and insightful, it's full of hook-laden songs and his vocals are strong and powerful. And his voice is still intact---it's Henley.... "Dammit Rose" listen to it!)
2. Steve Earle ---- "Transcendental Blues" (Probably my favorite Steve Earle---this is not country-----it's more beatle-esque than anything. The 1st 2 songs {the title cut + "Everyone's In Love With You"} are two of the stronger 1 - 2 beginnings I know of)
3. Ryan Adams ---- "Heartbreaker" (The solo debut! Contains "My Winding Wheel" among other gems! A must have CD)
4. Todd Snider ----- "Happy To Be Here" (Todd in full folk storyteller mode. Ever wondered what happened to DB Cooper? Listen in and find out)
5. Mark Knopfler ---- "Sailing To Philadelphia" (Mark scores a hit song even. The CD is solid, but there are better to come)
6. Merle Haggard ---- "If I Could Only Fly" (Merle releases his 1st studio LP of new recording in years.. and it's great! His last GREAT LP)
7. Van Morrison & Linda Gail Lewis --- "You Win Again" (I'm always a sucker for Van's country crooning....... go listen to "I Wanna Roo You" on Tupelo Honey for example--------- here Van teams up with Jerry Lee's sister Gail to cover a bunch of classic country tunes....... think Van sings Hank Senior!)
8. Calexico ---- "Hot Rail" (Want to know what living along the border {i.e. Tucson} sounds like. This is a great place to start)
9. Tracy Chapman ---- "Telling Stories" (Aptly named and one of my favorite's of hers. I'll give you about 10 reasons why)
10. Nickel Creek ---- "Nickel Creek" (The debut------youngsters making bluegrass sound fresh........ what a concept!)

Honorable mention:
Neil Young "Silver & Gold" It's fine, but I had just gotten so used to Neil just rocking it out!!

And I never got to hear that particular John Hiatt....... always wanted to........ gonna have to pick it up.. thanks for the reminder Wylie!

After looking at Dino's list. Good stuff there. I have the Steely Dan disc and considered it, but ultimately decided I just didn't like it enough overall to include it. I'm sure I'll remember more 2000 releases that we forgot, too! If they NEED mentioned I'll try and post them, but as I said I'm gonna be gone in about 24 Hours......... for days.

TY, you as well Dino. I'm going into the mountains camping.......... such are the joys of living in AZ........ camping at 5000 Ft. elevation in late November with highs in the low 80's................ :-)

But the place is swarming with bats, bugs, snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, and centipedes..........and it's miserably hot most of the time............. don't NOBODY else move here! lol

I forgot to mention rabid hydrophobic, pornographic broadstripe skunks, rapid, rabid foxes (they're kinda cute, though), and crazy SOB's from Phoenix running around in the woods with greasepaint and guns thinking they just became Davy Crockett....... the ONLY way to handle them idjits is to shoot back........... :-).
Plus, Cows always have the right of way............. Those damn coyotes are always running round causing trouble trying to catch one of them roadrunners, and then there's the Jack-o-lopes and the Gila Monsters. Don't come here, ever!

there was an album by a group called the sugarbabes...it is an album for the background but there is a rock song called overload that i highly reccomend.

Also, as to U2 I like a bunch of their songs, but they just take themselves far too seriously for me.

I just mentioned to my wife last night that, for some reason, I just never got into U2 as much as I probably should have based on their actual musical output.
Their long career speaks for itself. Several releases have become classic rock notables. Some are just simply brilliant. But, over time, their approach just didn't vary enough for me. Always large, always heavily produced, just always aimed at the "large" as opposed to an intimate connection with just one listener at a time. Still, some releases just can't be ignored because they are, well, excellent rock and roll. Other LP's are solid good rock but just so (kinda) pretentious. I think it would be a good idea IF they just lightened up for one release, did some sort of covers LP of "roots rock" gems so they could just jam out and strut their chops as a cohesive, tight rock band. I bet they'd kill!

im really not a u2 fan overall.....but this was one of their albums where they put it all together and it doesnt come across too serious...i feel the same way........i like this coldplay album......it is a quiet album with occasional beautiful anti-structured melodies.....i cant deny the beauty of the songs with great singing.
the patti smith album wasnt highly reviewed but it is a very cool album if you like patti smith.

HEY, you edited that to spell vittles right! I was gonna question your hillbilly credentials there for a minute. I gave up on Opossum though. Gives me heartburn.
And I ain't got enough teeth left for the beef jerky. I like eating things soft and squishy............. like boiled squirrel meat........... or slurping on a fresh melon, or a ripe nubian............. :-)

how about bat wings with some nice hot sauce.......and skewered snake......good stuff.

well said....on a purely visceral level i heard more of the individual connection you spoke about on the 2000 album........also the songs were more varied.
u2s 2 favorite post sixties groups are the clash and believe it or not the ramones who they say were a major influence.....
