About the Meals on Wheels cuts...A glance at the program's 2015 financial statement shows the program brought in just over $7.5 million in funding that year, mainly from corporate and foundation grants making up $5.15 million.

Government grants made up just $248,347 of the funding – or 3.3 percent of total funds.

This probably won't end the program...

Most effective way to pay for public projects: Give tax credits to businesses who donate. It encourages putting the profits back into the infrastructure that enabled the profit

Yeah, you might end up with Stouffer's presents "Meals on Wheels", but it'll be paid for without creating the circular reasoning of providing taxpayer funded food to taxpayers.

Comprehensive tax reform should come soon. It should be a much more fair system. Lower rates, eliminating most if not all loopholes.

People ***** about toll roads, but a user type tax is much more fair. I know here in Missouri the I-70 corridor from KC to StL will likely become a toll road. I dont have a problem with that...

That's nuts. Oklahoma is essentially a 3rd world country all its own with respect to it's toll roads! A toll road is the WORST kind of regressive tax. The middle class and the poor are the ones who pay for 99.9% of the roads cost (you know, it's called commuting to work!) while the rich get a free ride (literally!) because they use the roads much, much less and (obviously) pay a minuscule pct. of their "commuting" expense when compared with the working stiff!!

Once a toll road............ ALWAYS a toll road.............. LONG after it's been paid off/for.............. Too easy a source of revenue for Gov't............. up til now always STATE GOV'T and you want to have FEDERAL toll roads?? What is this.......... Mexico??? Again........... NUTS!!! Complete lunacy!

Is it? Here is a study that says otherwise...

Isn't it just another form of a consumption tax?

Isn't the issue in perception changes of who the "wealthy" are, the source of their wealth, and the good that capital provides to society? In the days of the Great Gatsby, a man would stand on the corner with his son. A large roadster would turn the corner in front of them. Picture one of those 1920s models painted a gold/yellow with brown fender wells. The father would look to his son and say something like "see that man son, if you work responsibly and give it a full effort, you too can be like him". Nowadays the Dad would say "I wonder who he screwed to buy that car". People have blurred the lines of rights and responsibilities (e.g. I have a right to vote. There is a concomitant responsibility to be informed).

since trump i have often asked myself..why shouldn't we all cheat as much as we can on our taxes...he inspires me.....to be smart.....ask not what your country can do for you ...ask what you can do for yourself.
Pretty sure he doesn't cheat, especially given the scrutiny his billions bring... I guarantee you that he takes every conceivable deduction though. That's called "smart".

Go ahead, dino, brag to your friends how you DON'T take all your deductions because you're not as selfish as Trump. Better yet, why don't you tell your wife and kids you didn't deduct mortgage interest this year and you're willing to pay Fed this year because you're concerned about Trump cutting funding to Planned Parenthood.

I thought so.

redwingscup, I don't think anyone here is saying that every wealthy person is a crook, a con man, a pathological liar, a tax evader, a draft dodger, a serial adulterer, a petulant clown, etc. We're sort of focused on one particular rich guy here.

Also, The Great Gatsby is a weird reference to use if you're making a point about the good old days. As I recall, Gatsby (not even his real name!) got rich bootlegging, and palled around with bad hombres, like the guy who fixed the 1919 World Series.

todd...if he didnt cheat he would show returns.....there are always creative deductions...some go further then others with this.....if you have billions you might pay more then you have to in taxes...that is not dumb...he doesnt even give to charity.

Just drive from W. Oklahoma thru OK City and on up to/thru Tulsa on the Toll Roads. I did. It was the closest thing to a Mexican road I've found yet. Except less "topas" and MORE Toll booths! And the roads were a crumbling mess with constant slow downs for "construction zones" wherein nothing much was happening.

A CLASSIC example of government at work. Great idea. Turn our freeways over to the Gov't. There goes the family vacation.............
The way of the family ski trip, Dad playing golf once a week, etc................

I thought you were a Republican........... you know small gov't and all that............... Another classic example of a Republican voter........... rudderless............ no real principles..... (other than doing the bidding of big business interests, of course)........just blame the poor, the colored's (today's color of blame-choice is Brown!) somebody other than me and mine! It's a bankrupt ideology in search of a saviour. Hence Trump and the blind-eye the party casts towards his REAL ideology, class warfare for the purpose of destruction. Banning has said it, straight out. They want to destroy all public faith in gov't. As if there was much left to begin with.

You really think that's good for the good ol USA? But then, as usual, with the Republicans it's almost always Party in front of Country.
After All........... Power corrupts........... Absolutely. And just who is it that has the power????

You won't be blaming your next scapegoat pretty dang soon. Won't be nowhere to point. Not them damn liberals, this time........... Nor the Mezkins,......... Nor the Chinese,........... Nor the........... Nope----it's all on You! And you're following Trump............... I'd be laughing IF I weren't searching so hard for that cave.

cant the republicans trade the dems abe lincoln for andrew jackson or george wallace and a treasure chest of wiki leaks.

It's really disconcerting to see the paranoid ramblings of LaramieBob and the confused, non-sensical (and non-grammatical) musings of Dino, and think that they're allowed to actually vote and/or operate heavy machinery.

Are you of the opinion that for the past 8 years it WASN'T party before country? IRS targeting, a serious lack of transparency, Obamacare shoved down our throats, you can keep your doctor, $2500 savings per family.............on and on...not a smidgen of corruption?

rIght now I see someone actually following through on campaign promises. Flawed, yes very flawed, but not pandering to anyone. And I see the normal feet dragging of Congress, doing not as much as needed to get the job done. Even many that supposedly don't approve of the business as usual in DC. And we are on our way to having another 4 years of not pulling together on the rope. That blame goes to both sides...
