Flyers 6....UGH!! Topic

A few other physical Forwards in the minors that could crack the bottom of the roster this season -

RW Mike Testwuide (6'3", 210 lbs)
C Sean Couturier (6'4", 191 lbs)
C/LW Tom Sestito (6'5" 228) <--- likely to replace Shelley on the wing and free up 600k in cap space
C Ben Holmstrom (6'1", 197 lbs)

Wellwood and Read are smaller wingers that get a lot of call-up mentions.

Yay!  Simmonds signs - 2 years for $3.5 mil

This is interesting - Maybe we have our 6th DMan and it comes from an unexpected place.... an UFA loophole.

eskin reports the flyers are still keeping tabs on the stamkos situation - if that falls through they want Drury.

Dry island?

Sounds like Richards wasn't the 'leader' we all thought.

syvret went to the blues. guess the flyers are putting their faith in Bartulis and/or Gustafsson

This makes me very happy.

JVR signs 6 years @ ~$4.25 AAV

You beat me to it, moy. If he can put together a regular season like last season's playoffs, he will own this town.

I predict he has a Giroux-type breakout this season, especially with the extra ice time. maybe 30 goals, 75 points or so. his emergence in the playoffs last season reminds me very much of Giroux in 2010. JVR is turning into one of my favorite flyers... period.

The fact that he signed for less than leino did in buffalo is astonishing.

On another note ---- I thought I was excited for last season after the stanley cup finals.... but I'm MORE excited for this season (to have a goalie FINALLY, to watch Giroux and JVR get major minutes, and to watch scrappy players like Simmonds and Talbot do their thing). It might be a bit painful to watch Jagr in orange and black but I bet he does well (low 60s in points). The thought still makes me cringe.

personally i think philly is one of the scariest teams this year.  you guys should do great.  :>

JVR-Schenn-Giroux=next Legion of Doom

not quite legion of doom in playing style - but in likability certainly. schenn and giroux are not big enough.

funny you bring them up though.... I was watching youtube clips of that line last week. man - I forgot how physical pre-concussed lindros played (I mostly just remember stevens leveling him, his parents being his agents and that mess, the fact he wouldn't play for quebec, and that the flyers gave colorado a stanley cup with all the players they dealt for him). Leclair-Lindros-Renberg used to just level players when they weren't crashing the net. good memories.

I hope so.

A lot of non-philly fans/bloggers are writing them off (considering NJ and NYR did get better). I personally think the Flyers are stronger - If not this season then next for sure. If they keep signing guys like Giroux (3x $3.75 mil), Talbot (5x $1.8 mil), and JVR (6x $4.25 mil) at such a low AAV they are going to be able to fit a lot of FA pieces under the cap... especially when Hartnell and Timonen go FA (over $10 mil freed up in 2 seasons). Add in the fact they have a real goalie in net for a long time. Imagine what the team will look like down the center once courturier and schenn develop. Briere-Giroux-Schenn-Couturier. Wow. Props to Homer/Snider and the direction they have taken them.

Not much doom in a sense of beating the crap out of other teams, but in scoring 30-35+ goals a season, yes there is doom for the other team's goalie.
