Obama: Worst President Ever? Topic

Well, that's for the United States Supreme Court to decide, isn't it?

Probably have to.  There are enough dumbass people running around passing propositions taking rights away from others, this could be an issue.

Gee.  I'll say it again...

Under the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, poor people should have the right to food as do rich people.  Your argument is DENIED.

How can you deny an argument, just because you make $hit up?
The 14th amendment states no such thing, under the equal protection clause.
You simply say it "should", but it does not.
MikeT23's argument is valid, AND based on history, I might add.

You should actually READ the US Constitution, as well as books about the founding fathers.

Everyone has the right to food, clothing (etc.).....if you WORK FOR IT.  No one ever said it would be easy.  One of the greatest things about this Country is that, you can have anything you want, if you're willing to work hard, and give it your all.
No one "owes" you anything!  You have the right to work, but no one "owes" you a job.
It's a beautiful thing that we, as a people, have such sympathy & compassion for our fellow citizens.  We would like to see everyone happy and successful.  That's great!
Allowing those feelings to bleed into a sense of entitlement is NOT, what our Constitution, or this Country is about.

The money comes from somewhere. And after the government takes it and a large portion of it goes to bureauacracy. This is money that would otherwise go into the economy.

What money?  Tax money or bond money?

Inflation hurts spending.
6/13/2012 4:32 PM
How?

How?
I thought I was blocked.  Liar.

I make $100 a week.   Groceries cost $75,     I have $25 more to spend as I want on extras like rent and utilities.    Inflation increases my groceries to $85.  Sadly, my rent and utilities still cost $25(inflation hasn't gotten them yet).    I ask my boss for a raise just so I can survive.  He says "Inflation hits me too, boy" and sends me on my way.    I am now operating at a deficit.

Inflation means stuff costs more.  It doesn't mean your pay increases.

Unblocking is a fairly easy process.

Let's assume for the moment that what you are describing is in fact inflation (the price of groceries increases isn't necessarily inflation), that inflation isn't hurting spending in a broad economic sense.  You are still spending your entire $100.

I was obviously simplifying.   You can't get a place to live and utilities for $100 a month, can you?

I'm also buying less.  And, in all likelihood, changing what I buy and where I live.  And, just for pretend sake, let's say I had $5 in disposable income(no one spends 100% of their income on bare necessities, right?), the $10 increase in necessities took that away from me.   No smokes, no beer, economy hurt.

You are still spending all of your income.  Instead of buying beer, you buy food, or gas, or whatever.

So the actual pain that people are going through isnt as important as a theoretical impact on the overall economy?

Inflation hurts discretionary spending.  That's an entire segment of the economy.

The fact that the local supermarket is now getting more of your money (which is not necessarily profit to them, but may just be meeting increased costs on their part) is of no consolation to the local movie theater which is now selling less tickets.

A drastic decrease in income through unemployment and lower wages is much more painful to many more people than increasing inflation from 2% to 5%.
