Good read, only one objection though. Where is Robert Nelson @ on Jr. PG. He smokes the competition! ;)

He may be smokin somethin but it isn't Russel. 155 to 105 in spd/ath is not a contest. Russel will approach the BH/P of Nelson by tourney time next season... Nelson will still be 40-45 pts behind in spd/ath. I wouldn't trade ya

I probably should start paying more attention to FT's. I like the list though, keep it updated yearly to show who moves up and down. Looks like you guys have 2 seasons before I run away with it. ;)

Here are a couple samples of what I've been working on.. The first is an average of all PG's in DIII Allen. The second is an average of all PG's in the NAC. Keep in mind, I can filter by year, teams, etc, which makes for lots of potential results.

ALL PG's

Elmo, great work! One of the first things that strike me is the FT% is D-. that seems a little too low.

Oops! Great observation floyd, found a bug with the FT display.. data is correct, but it isn't displaying the right letter grade... stay tuned for an update

Ok, bug fixed.. actual FT ratings for the above images are C+ and B- respectively

I'll consider my ticket answered.

Elmore, what's ERI? (I'm probably being dense here.)
2/4/2008 4:09 PM
haha, nah, you aren't being dense.. it's "Elmo's Rating Index"... a formula i'm messing around with

couple of updates:

The ERI (Elmo's Rating Index) is nearly complete, and early results are looking pretty good. Basically, this "formula" (actually a series of 'forumulas') simulates a player's progression up to their senior year. More specifically, the same time of season in their senior year as the date of the data (yesterday). After simulating progression, it then runs the player through an index formula (much like many of the others that other coaches have created). These results are normalized for all positions, and they become naturally normalized over each individual class. For example, here is a list of the average ERI's for each class:

Freshmen - 265.03
Sophomores - 277.19
Juniors - 269.65
Seniors - 259.19

This suggests that the current sophomore class is "better" than the others in terms of their effectiveness as seniors.

Ok, all of that info probably put anyone reading to sleep, so here's some "fun" stats.. The following is all current NAC players sorted by "POVR" (Potential OVR at this time their senior year). Also note that I have yet to implement RS's (it'll take forever to flag them all in the database), which means players like Tuttle will actually have another year under their belt (scary).

and here's where it gets interesting...
