The evals are simply not very meaningful, I've been watching those pretty closely, and the correlation isn't remotely strong enough to be reliable. I can't speak to the psych evals, maybe those are more effective. Regardless, it's lame and useless to get the same basic message for every good recruit.

I don't think were referring to what's at the bottom of the scouting trips, if that's what you're thinking of.

at this point i'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. Is there some big secret?
11/12/2009 12:36 AM
If LM2 says some info is there, I think it is. His record of keeping great players is too consistently better than others to think otherwise. I don't know what he knows, and it's fairly clear he's "solved the HD programming code," not just in EEs but in recruiting effectiveness and all phases of the game. Heck, he's probably figured out a few definitive details re: the game engine. It's a clear advantage, helping him to his great success. I'd love to know his secrets, but if he does have them, he earned them fair and square, through patient testing and analysis, and even though I'm a math guy, I'm not yet willing to move beyond playing the game more by feel than he does. More power to him.

you know there is one recruiting tool in particular that tells you explicitly, every time you use it, that it has no considering value but can give you information on things like a players chance of going to the NBA? if your goal is to figure out if a guy will go pro, that is probably a good place to start :)

wow.

bombshell.

am i understanding this right?

The vast majority of top coaches are on record as saying that EE is too random and there should be some indicator in evals or something. (I agree)

It has also seemed to me that most top coaches say Psych evals are a waste. (I agree)

Then in the space of a few posts here we have possibly the two most successful coaches in recent times...LM and DrGill hinting that the psych evals are mainly there for the purpose of telling you how likely a kid is to go pro?

apparently, the psych eval even tells you that it has no "consdering" value, but can help tell you things like whether a kid will go pro. it actually says this?

actually , it would make alot of sense if that was the case. $1500 is way too much for D3 or even D2 to spend on spomething like this,,,, but then, they dont need it. for a D1 school, it would be a no brainer to spend $1500 on a few different recruits to see which ones are most loikely to stick around.

wow.

And LM2 also says indications can be found in "other places." Oh, to know the things LM2 knows.
11/12/2009 12:13 PM
Yeah I have used psyc evals in the past and never noticed a pattern to guys that early to indications in them. Wish I had done it on Cook/Turner now just to see the difference tho.

i have filled all my spots in tark, but recruiting still has another day or so and i have some money, so i am going to do some evals.

i did one... awaiting results.

when you do one, it does come up a big warning that says: "this does not count toward considering credit" and "may give indications as to likelihood of going Pro early or accpeting a redshirt" among other stuff.

interesting.

its been so long since i did one, i cant even recall what they look like. and i cant recall if you get a comeplete report with one purchase or if it is like scouting reports that usually only give you a small part of the picture with each purchase.

i wonder if it will be an obvious indicator or if it is like a puzzle. im betting a puzzle.

could it be that LM is referring to the coach comments like "you dont norammly see a star riding the bus", etc ... could that stuff be giving a glimpse to thier personality?

ok - I will reveal the secret - recuit a team of 12 900 level frosh, at least 6 of them will stick around for another season, then reload, guys look at your roster and say he is the luckiest or smartest coach ever because 6 900 rated soph's stayed around for another season.

seriously, I think there are at least a half doz things I do which seem to help my effort to keep guys around, the best one I know is to lose 12 or 13 games a season and / or keep my RPI around 60.

seble actually seemed to give some pretty good insight into the process: the trouble is he cannot come right out and tell us what goes into rating guys in the top 30 or 60 or 100, it would give us too much help - i.e. I assume the going early ratings, in addition to the psych stuff, has some hard and cold wieghted used of the ratings, I don't think anyone expects seble to come right out and give us the formula - as I would suspect, the same core skills in the formula are what makes a player special in the sim engine too????

OR, after watching my PF with 70 rebound leave early I am not so sure anymore. We have all stated the importance of rebounding but apparently its not important for the NBA?

I just started HD, and I know it doesn't say it in words, but I'd assume the two main results to look at here would be Paitence/Restraint and Materialism.
