i'm fine with damag's suggestion.  round eleven for double picks sounds good to me.  and with 12.3 forwards, and 5.9 defensemen, that's 18 skaters, which is enough to ice a team with relatively few injuries.  i'd be more concerned about enough goaltenders with enough games played to satisfy 24 teams.  there is currently only 52 goaltenders with 20+ games, and two more that might make it.  (sitting at 19).  that's 54 goalies to satisfy 48 minimum goalie slots.  there are 26 that will likely end up with 50 games or more played.  4 goalies that will finish in the forties, and then it drops down to mid thirties at best.  we might want to consider limiting teams that have a strong starter (ie one of the thirteen goalies that will likely finish with 60 or more games) to only be allowed one backup.  that way teams that end up with a starting goalie with around 50 games could be allowed to take two backup goalies to make sure they have enough games to last the season.

just a suggestion.  i'm not concerned about my team at all, as ward might end the season with the most games played.  but i wouldn't want to see somebody get screwed by having two goalies that don't even total 82 games.  though of course, that would mean they weren't drafting goalies when they maybe should have, so we could just say  "you snooze, you lose".  :>

another suggestion would be to just say that nobody is allowed to have two goalies in the top twenty-four for games played.  that way everyone is guaranteed at least a 50 game starter, and after that it's up to them to make sure they have enough games.  although that could lead to the last couple teams just waiting and taking their starting goalie with their last overall pick.  :>

Yeah I'd rather not put a limitation on the drafting. That being said, the goalie issue is very real, but with enough skaters to cover everyone, the few teams who don't get 2 goalies to cover 82 games can draft 3 and only 2 bench players. We could also bump the quality of the minor leaguers to Averge or AA which would also help. There are ways around it.

Speaking of which, I wonder if we could get admin to name all minor leaguers in our league after draft eligible players from the 2011 class. That would be pretty cool.

Thanks for all the good comments people made about how to proceed.  I submitted a ticket to ask when they expect to update the player database, and if I get an answer that might help us decide when to go into "hurry-up mode."  I hear what people are saying about the injury riddled season and the shortage of goalies.  My feeling is that everyone should expect that they will play their scrubs.  There's no cap for this league (in theory) so make your team as deep as you can and expect to play hurt, even to have to call up a minor league player.  Just like real single season hockey.  This is just my opinion, I have no more authority than anyone else.  I likewise don't think it's fair to the managers that have already passed over a great forward to draft a durable goalie, to now guarantee those that haven't done so that they won't take another.  My feeling is that if you use your picks in such a way that you end up with no strong goalie, it's your own offense greedy fault.  Why should we reward the people taking all the best skaters with a promise now that we'll leave their goalies alone?  I say, use up one of your picks like the rest of us.  Quick.

There are a minimum 52 goalies in the database, with at least one more likely.  You can draft 3 goalies, so I don't see that as a problem at all.  Worst case you would end up with ~70 games played at goal, and that will get you through a season just fine.

My pick is in one hour, and I won't be here, so crippled please proxy for me the best available of:

1. Curtis Glencross
2. Danny Cleary
3. Rene Bourque
4. Brian Gionta
5. Patrik Berglund

(also, you need to add Umberger to the alpha list)

(another random suggestion: can we re-name minor-leaguers to sub-20 games played guys?)

I am standing by, doing my best, but people should know I'm not at the computer non-stop.  Others can proxy too.  Thanks for picking up on the missing player.  Anyone notices that I screw up - even a spelling mistake - please let me know.  I don't want to be the cause of a player being drafted twice.
