Despite our historic season, we will fail to win 90 games so the bounty is still up for grabs!
8/31/2020 11:13 PM
My first SB attempt fell just short on 90 wins with an 86-76 record. We did finish with 1090 SB and 227 CS for a net of 863 SB. Just shy of my goal of 900. I may make a few tweaks and try again, but it'll have to wait a little bit as I've got a ton of team going, with several focused on the error and HR bounties.

I threw this up on page one as an honorable mention. You were literally 1-win away from absolutely destroying this bounty.

Well, I'm not going to come close to a net of +1135, but I have a team that is +505 through 107 games (on pace for ~750 or so)...and we're 80-27, so I'm thinking 90 wins won't be a problem.

This team is now 90-30...so we will definitely qualify for the bounty. Just a question of where our net SB will end up.

Currently at +549 through 120 games, so our pace has slowed down a bit. On pace for ~730.

That team is incredible. I’m impressed with how well they’ve performed
9/8/2020 11:28 PM
They are playing over their ahead (well above their Exp Pct) but it's been fun. Nice thing about that is that I can let them play all 162 games...in a close pennant race I would be sorely tempted to replace Nicol with his AAA, be more aggressive with PH, etc.

While I would seem to be on track to claim the lead in this bounty, I think chargingryno's team (that just missed 90 wins) has demonstrated that you can get more SB and fewer CS while still winning a lot games. I expect that by 12/31 we'll have someone with +1000 or so claim the final prize.

Big picture, this is exactly what just4me was trying to achieve with these bounties. Show that you can win with more than just the traditional/popular teams. So often in OL’s you just see cookie cutter copies, I’m guilty of it as well, with nearly identical teams competing against each other. I love trying to find unique ways to win using methods that are thought to be less effective

The spirit of the bounties is to test the statistical limits while remaining competitive, but I am finding that it's a good exercise in simply testing effective strategies that I otherwise wouldn't have employed. I normally build teams around power with one stud SP and lights-out bullpen, with little interest in speed or defense, as long as they don't detract from my team. I always found SBs and Range to be far more expensive than other varialbes. However, my "+" play team is really showing how a strong D can improve bad pitching (my team ERC# is at least a full run higher than usual), and how slap hitters can succeed in Hilltop. I'm not surprised by either of these outcomes, but it's a complete 180 from what I normally do. This may change my calculus in building teams in the future, so on top of being fun, it's made me a better player.

and for an update we're 32-18 through 50 games, with 23 + plays from Snuffy...

I only just read (most of) this. I have a team at 94-54 with 201 errors so we would seem to have a shot at bounty #4. This was . . . *not* intentional; Howard Johnson '91 has been a greater disaster at shortstop than I anticipated with 90 errors in 138 starts, which I described in the league forum as "nearly heroic" in the same way Waylon Smithers described Homer Simpson's beer intake in that ep where Mr. Burns takes the power plant stiffs to a 'Topes game. Am I eligible for this without having entered on purpose?

Thing is, I've started HoJo at 2B (moving a mediocre 2B to short) the last four games after a suggestion from a smart newbie and he's error-free so far. I wanted to use those four games and the remaining fourteen to test that swap but if I'm eligible for the bounty I may send Johnson back to SS with some weights in his glove.

As far as I can tell, every open league team is eligible...there is no explicitly need to enter a team with the specific intent of achieving the bounty.

100% This. No need to declare intent. Current leader for errors was taken from leaderboard in one of my leagues. I don't even know if they know it's currently leading.

I left HoJo at 2B for two games bc it seemed to be working and I was trying to win a series (mission not accomplished), but the rest of the team came through with three errors so we're up to 204 w/ 12 games to go. I'll post back at the end of the reg. season.
9/10/2020 11:18 PM
HoJo came in with 91 errors at SS and 8 at 2B for 99 in total, which was both amazing qnd disappointing. So close.

The team finished with 104 wins and 222 errors (MLB128119) so for now I claim bounty number 4.
