Also, my approach to Savage is maximizing "peak" and less about getting lots of "okay". That was my main takeaway after seasons 1 and 2 and I improved a lot after that shift.

So far in Savage I have noticed that people who do better at this than me go for the peak seasons while something in my DNA keeps telling me to take five season guys. Maybe by Savage XVII I will change.

Here's my draft synopsis/eval:

I really wanted a 2 guard in one of the first two picks. At 20 I considered Kawhi or a big in hopes Kawhi or Dr J would be there. I took Kawhi because I was worried the 4 owners at the turn would grab them both. A little early for Kawhi and his very low minutes. Then Duncan, Jordan, Hakeem, Jokic and Moses all went making me regret it. Didn't love Wallace here, who only gets you great D and good to solid boards. Leaves you needing a lot. Was kicking myself for not being more aggressive and just taking Duncan and hoping for Dr J on the backend. But felt Wallace was the best option rather than reaching for some of the other bigs. Never planned on Luka, was really targeting Capela but with Ben Wallace I didn't think it was enough scoring inside (again why I didn't want to limit myself earlier). Luka does have 3 real good season and 1 more passable one. Don't love the lack of D and his TO's are almost too much. But with Kawhi he'll put a lot of pressure on teams with only 1 defender on the perimeter. And his incredible rebounding does allow flexibility elsewhere moving forward.

I'm not sure I can ever remember using Moncrief in any league, although with over 700 seasons i've forgotten a lot. I thought about a few other guys, more traditional PG like Mookie or Bledsoe - but Moncriefs D is really good, sneaky good rebounder and very clean player. Doesn't hurt you anywhere and helps in a few places. With Kawhi and Luka a bit light on minutes, Moncrief seems like a good fit. In the 5th I wanted to grab a big who could score a bit next to Wallace, but some of my preferred options were gone like Okafor who would have been the guy, but as in past Savage drafts DH seems to read my mind. Decided it would be wise to load up on D around Luka and took Outlaw. Rebounds are fine, scores efficiently although not often and very high TO% that I can live with due to low usage.

Lanier and McAdoo in the 6th and 7th were very fortunate. I had a major need for guys like that and would have had some pretty sketchy options if one or both were taken. Each has one great season and Lanier has a few ok seasons where there should be enough D and rebounds around him. Was very happy to plug in Dejounte for a 5th season that somewhat replicated Luka and gives a little back up help. Josh Smith will probably start one season over Outlaw and back up others. D'Angelo I hope is nice insurance off the bench if my assist numbers are too low. Biyombo and Lucas will back up in the FC.

My thoughts on how to build a good savage team has evolved. If I were to just look at team that has Luka, Kawhi, Outlaw, Wallace and Lanier/McAdoo with Moncrief and others off the bench I would probably say better than middle of the pack but not top 5. But the numbers I've run for my team have me pretty optimistic. Every team is ~ average starting D of 80, which doesn't even include Moncrief. 140 and in one case almost 150creb. Couple of good shooting teams, a few solid shooting teams. Enough 3's. TO's I think are real good (not Rob level, but good) and fouls under control. Hoping most of these teams compete, may depend on the division draw.

That's an approximation of typical numbers for the starters of my five teams. I'll agree that I don't have the ideal number of 3s. Also, I should've drafted Dwight Powell in round 10 instead of Eddie Jones. I disagree that the picks of Thaddeus Young, Bob Gross, and Jeff Ruland were "meh", lol.

I have a couple long standing rules in WiS. One of them is never be stoked that someone redbooda would pick is on my team.

I don't really look at starter's numbers, but my averages on my 5 teams now on the build I like the best are:

Usage: 107.6%
eFG% 54.3%
cRB% 134.9
ast% 66.9
D: 75.4
3's: 444

Hoping that's enough.

Yeah after seeing y'all's numbers, I'll be lucky to crack the top 10. That's not too bad for a washed up punk, though

One starting 5 that is for a team where Nash comes off the bench (Wade at PG + 4 Defenders. Uses the good Noah season which is why assists are still high)

130 USG (lol)
53.4 eFG%
127.7 CRB%
84 AST%
90.8 avg Def
8.8 STL%
12.5 BLK% (Karl Malone is worst shot blocker on starting 5)

One starting 5 that is for a team with Nash/Wade both starting

115.8 USG%
56.24 eFG%
133.4 CREB%
81.8 AST%
67.4 avg Def
6.6 STL%
9.5 BLK%

Those numbers look pretty good. How are the TOWELS?

Administrative update on the spreadsheet this season: we will be moving away from per game stats and over to per 100 possession stats.

I still maintain % based numbers internally... but I can't give you guys everything :)

I still have most individual team and squad performance numbers going back to season 2, but I don't have a good way to aggregate it because I evolved the numbers tracked over time. I also didn't start tracking playoff performance and results at the world level until season 3.

The all time squad based performance numbers using score metrics are reliable going back to the beginning though. I am still posting them at the end of each season for everyone's reference.

I deleted the sitemail with the league numbers by accident, can someone send them to me please?
