plays in Syracuse seasons 22, 23, and 24 and 25 he had the same ratings save power which was 79 79 78 and 77 (he also dropped one point on contact after season 24. Between season 22 and 26 he was getting between 60-80% of his ab against righties.

Are you surprised by his last few seasons' production?

I'd have to dig deeper, perhaps parks changed throughout the league, maybe owners began to value defense more, could be there was an group of pitchers that hit the bigs around the same time, but it's odd that the decline appears to be steady instead of up, down, up down.

We are looking to move.
As a kid, I've always wanted a treehouse.

Should I knock off both dreams and get this: https://www.realtor.ca/Residential/Single-Family/19066414/508-PENNIAC-RD-MOUNT-HOPE-New-Brunswick-E3A9A3 ?

That actually looks awesome. But you'd have to sell the wife on it. I'd like to buy a big *** RV and travel the US. The wife does not seem interested so I think my dream is dying on the vine. Maybe I'll see if a Canuckian treehouse is more her speed and outbid you!

If a pitcher has 4 pitches with the exact same rating, does the catcher pitch calling rating really matter? Similarly, I was wondering if you had thought about when 1 better pitch outweighs a deeper arsenal because of pitch calling. For example, 90/57/45/32 vs 86/89/68/62. Clearly the 2nd arsenal is better, but I wonder if one is better with a PC of 50, while a PC of 95 closes the gap.

Catchers don't actually "call" pitches. It's a modifier for Opponents Average Against which obviously affects ERA. Plugging those pitch numbers into my ratings formula neutral park, which weighs each pitch accordingly, the 2nd guy is roughly 10% better.

Can you tell me what difference in vR you think would cancel out the 10% difference in pitches or is that giving out too much? I think I've always underestimated pitch value and have put a bit too much emphasis on vL and vR (with control 3rd). Pitches have always been the 4th thing I look at.

I was going to ask something about pretty much the opposite. When it comes to older pitchers, seems to me their pitch ratings die off earlier and faster than their splits. IMO once a pitcher no longer has any pitches above 70 he can't pitch in the bigs anymore. What say you?

Here's what I'll tell you then I'll qualify with my response to damag: VR is always the most important, Then, IMO, control, VL then pitches(P1 most important of the first four pitches as I do not use P5 in my formula). The formula does vary between parks. Sometimes control is a higher variable but it's always those 4 in the same order.

The formula isn't perfect when things get wonky as you suggest. Sometimes you have to do an eye test. But, yeah, for the most part, that 69/58/52/44 pitchers loses a lot of effectiveness. Or, even for younger pitchers, that great pitcher with 30 control might rate out in my formula but we know he's going to suck.

.Meh. He was glad to walk barefoot, uphill in the snow to get to school. Personally, I liked football better when Jack Tatum and George Atkinson would behead receivers that ran crossing routes but, truth is, Jack and George probably don't even make practice squads these days.

We saw it today, and you’ll be happy to know we are out of the running. Too much house complete on budget and still have enough for a farm.

things learned

-house was owned by a now deceased locally notorious drug dealer
-there is a tree in the middle of the living room
-it is about $80k (cdn) from being a nice house, but when done, it would be a palace.

Are you more or less intrigued?

Tatum was 5' 10", so unless he ran a 4.4 40 he wouldn't make a practice squad; if he did he'd have been a good corner even today. He might have been able to run that fast with modern training... he was a terrific athlete. Atkinson returned kicks so might have been fast enough to play corner; I think he'd have made a credible slot corner or nickelback in the NFL.

Was that (Tatum, Atkinson, Brown, Wilson or whoever depending on year) the best NFL secondary of all time? I think I like the Cowboys of that same era (Renfro, Waters, Harris, Adderley) better but you might reasonably disagree.

Pretty sure Tatum and Atkinson were both safties. But I'm old so I might have forgotten and I'm too lazy to check. Atkinson wasn't a big man either. Their job was to blow up plays/receivers. I'm not sure speed would have played as much a factor today, unless they were running lineman speed, as you think. Size might be a bigger problem. I can't see either of them being capable of covering a 6'5" TE that runs a 4.61.

That's so hard to say. Different styles, different games. In the 70s, if you gave up 200 yards, you had a **** day. Now, if you hold them to less than 300, it's a successful day. I loved Lester Hayes.

I was unclear. They were both safeties-- but I couldn't imagine either of them (5' 10", 200 and 6' 0", 180) being big enough to play safety in the modern NFL. I assumed they'd either have to be fast enough to play corner or they'd be flat-out unplayable.

So I looked it up; Tatum was, by reputation, very fast. And Earl Thomas is the same 5' 10", 200 as Tatum (and runs a 4.4 40). So best guess is that Tatum could probably have played in the modern era at Free Safety, and that I was wrong in my first assumption. Atkinson about the same. You maybe couldn't have played them together, since they'd probably both have to play free safety, since both of them would have had trouble covering Gronk as you point out.

No question here-- I just like 1970s NFL.
