Lohse is garbage. If he's legitimately the 3rd best starter on a team, said team isn't going anywhere, no matter who the #1 and #2 guys are.

Piniero is just as bad.

The Cardinals will have a top 3 rotation. I don't think anybody is worried about that. How they are going to score runs and how to not let the bullpen turn into a blowpen are their concerns.

Top 3 in what? Missiouri?

Not since he started throwing that good sinker...

I would put Carpenter, Wainright and Piniero (or anyone else, for that matter) as one of the best "Top 3"s in the NL.

The front two will finish 1-2 in Cy voting this year. The only other top pairings that rival them are Lincecum-Cain, Haren-Webb and Lee-Hamels (if he returns to form). So I guess it comes down to who has the best #3 when the season starts.

Ya, I had no idea that the excellence of the Cardinal rotation was even debatable. Guess it just goes to show you that you can believe anything you want to if your will power is strong enough and your siteline narrow enough.

I'm anxious to hear why Mudbone thinks that Pineiro is terrible, other than the fact he wears a red uniform.

He's just not very good. His numbers are pretty unimpressive. He had two decent years in an extreme pitcher's park, then was a pile of suck until '09. Kyle Lohse is the same guy....career season under Duncan.

No one is questioning the dominance of their front 2. Pinerio was excellent this year, but he's a free agent who's near the front of a weak class and thus will likely have to be overpaid. Is there anything close to a guarantee that he'll come back? And if he doesn't, or if he regresses from a career year, I don't think you can say that what's behind Wainwright and Carpenter would form anything you could guarantee as an excellent rotation. Lohse had a career year in '08, but returned to his career norms this year, which aren't good.

Carpenter and Wainwright with not much behind them still makes you very dangerous in the playoffs, but I don't that's a top 3 rotation over the course of a regular season.

Actually that wasn't really Piniero's career year. He had an arguably better year for the Mariners in 2002 and his 2003 was pretty close.
