Yet more fearmongering. 2 weeks from now we will be in the same situation. Worlds will stay private for awhile, fill some spots, and then go public and wait a week and fill the rest. In the meantime another world filled since I last posted and in the next four days probably many more will fill.

A sign of insanity is repeating the same process and expecting a different result.

If you don't recall, we had a problem this time last year that was "solved" by issuing 150 free teams. That's 5 worlds worth of teams. That's about how many need to go.
10/2/2009 7:50 AM
And don't use "fearmongering" after I called you a fearmonger for stating that people would quit WifS/HBD if their world was contracted. It's unoriginal.
10/2/2009 7:51 AM
If I am unoriginal are you a hypocrite? Seems like you are guilty of the same thing you claimed of me.

42 open teams right now, not 150.. Only Vin Scully has been on the public list for a long time. Williams has been on the public list for a little while, all the rest of the worlds have been on the public waiting list for a reasonable time.

21 rolling within the week.

Look, I really don't think this is going to affect me at all. Cooperstown, a world I commish, rolled within hours. Had 2 replacements lined up weeks in advance. But I sat for a month in ABU. Lost all interest in that team. It would have been VERY easy for me to give that one up. I imagine a lot of owners who sit for weeks on end at EVERY rollover feel the same way.

agreed! but we stuck it out, right mikey?
10/2/2009 9:13 AM
Fair enough. However I don't think 21 rolling in the next week is nothing major, its been that way for awhile. 7 days from now you won't see much more in the public world section. I also don't think closing worlds is going to solve that problem, any advantages from closing worlds will only be a short term solution, and will create a new problem for owners who build with a dynasty in mind because it will now play on their mind when making decisions about a new team, or even rebuilding a current team. Its pandoras box, once opened it can't be closed.
10/2/2009 9:15 AM
Of course you won't see many in the public world section. Most of those rolling are private.

You keep acting as if 37 worlds are going to close. It would be a handful and they would be the worlds who just don't fill promptly. Once a few are gone, supply/demand will balance out.

That is the cycle, worlds go private and eventually go public, when they go public they usually fill within a week.

I disagree supply/demand will balance out, any benefits gained from coaches that would not be so upset about losing their team of their own free choice will be offset by future decisions of coaches not taking on rebuilding teams with fear of worlds closing.

The owners who will likely just move on to another team are coaches who tend to not get attached to teams, which are owners who generally don't stay long term, while long term type coaches will less likely take on new teams.

You seem to completely discount the fact that some owners will be much happier if they join a world that rolls quickly as opposed to waiting for weeks.

Maybe they're just comfortable with their strong team in their crap world. Mother Bird just needs to shove them out of the nest for them to see there's a great big world out there and it's actually much better than the cramped nest.
10/2/2009 9:33 AM
I think its a fallacy to believe that someone that is forced out of their team will just move onto another team in another world. I know I would not. I have had some of these teams for 13-14 seasons, thats 3 plus years of real life. I spent 4-5 seasons rebuilding some of these teams, that is 1+ year.

The solution is already in place. If you don't want to be in a world that takes weeks to rollover then move out of that world and into a world you consider a fast rollover world. I waited 2 months for one world and I would of waited 2 more months because I was dedicated.
10/2/2009 9:38 AM
The reason I play this game is the Dynasty aspect, if worlds fold what attracted me to this game is now gone. This game no longer has a Dynasty feel to the game.
10/2/2009 9:42 AM
I've never claimed that. I've REPEATEDLY said that some will say "F this game" and leave forever. Quit pretending that you haven't read those posts.

But, for the overall health of the game, quick rollovers are better. Owners don't lose interest. They can't wait for next season. Imagine the guy who has one team and joined WifS two seasons ago. He waits 3-5 weeks to play(not counting the 2-3 weeks he may wait if he's not in the playoffs). If he wants another team, he may be discouraged due to the two month delay between actual playing time.
10/2/2009 9:44 AM
A owner who loses interest is a owner who is not dedicated to that individual team, those are the owners who are just as likely to quit a world and move to another world. At some point they will eventually move on to another world, forcing them out a week or even a month earlier doesn't matter. This policy will just get the flakes to move from one world to another, the dedicated owners that we all want in our worlds is the ones we lose.
