I hope JConte understands it isn't just a little bit off, the engine isn't working at all.  Today, my #5 ranked Grove City, Hayes DIII team just barely beat the #224 ranked team in double OT.  He missed an 18 yard field goal or I could have lost.   The coach for the team I played against (Bethany) quit about 3 seasons ago so all his players except for his seniors are SIM recruits.  Talent wise his team is nowhere close to mine, as he has not logged in in months.  I have the Conference player of the year at RB and and both OL and DL are vastly better than his, yet I couldn't run the ball against him at all, and he could run against me?  So how do they develop an Engine that allows his team to EVER get within 30 points of my team?  It just makes no sense.  I should beat him 60 to 0 95 times out of 100.  On a good day for him, he should lose 56 to 10.  I believe the truth is the new Engine doesn't work, at all, and they don't know how to fix it.    I sure enjoyed the old game.  The depth chart management and "loopholes" were part of what made the game fun.   This thing needs vast improvement or I'm done.  I will miss it too.
I agree with every bit of that.  I absolutely loved the old engine, never had a gripe.

I looked at that game - the talent difference was roughly 95 points on team averages. The opponent OL had 2 guys with blk>40, and his DL averaged 49/48. The RBs were pretty good, but good enough to run behind a crappy line? Not sure.

I have no problem with the scores not ending up 71-0, but that matchup should be an average of 3-4 TD spread.

By the way, after the 5th inning of the Big 12 CC in Hayes, your score is Texas 2, Nebraska 2.
My CMU team is losing 2-0 to EMU at the half.  Wonder how many times that has happened in real life.

I think the scariest thing for WIS is that many users I've never seen post in the forums before are angry enough to come on here and voice their displeasure.

Joe,

First of all thanks for coming in here to discuss these things and help increase our understanding. Secondly and I know everyone has a suggestion and it is hard to please all but was wondering if the following might make sense. Have two depth charts for offense and defense. One for passing formations Trips and shotgun and one for running formations I, ND Box, Wishbone, Pro -set. For offense allow only changes in RB's, WR's and TE's that way you could make substitutions similiar to real college football. On defense have same 2 depth charts but possibly on passing depth chart have 2 slots for pass rushers and 2 for lbers and one for nickel and one for dime back. Just a thought which i believe would make depth charts a little more flexible but still mirror realistic usage.

Thanks again

What a novel idea!  Oh yeah, we had that exact thing with the last game engine.....but the losing coaches were unhappy with it so now it's gone.....along with a very fun game.

Also, talent has to be the overriding factor in deciding the outcome of games. It has to be, otherwise what's the point? Personel decisions and gameplanning should also play a role and should be the deciding factor when two evenly matched teams meet up, but there comes a point when the talent descrepancy is just too wide and no amount of coaching should be able to overcome a team being a 35 point underdog, especially if that team is SIM controlled.

Very well said.  That is what I hate most about the new engine......talent doesn't matter anymore.

I second this.

That is my biggest gripe--I'm not going to criticize the developers for trying to close a loophole or adding additional features to the game, but regardless of what JConte implied--talent has been deemphasized.  Strategic components of the game have been taken away vis a vis depth charts / formations.

That recruiting has been deemphasized is something I really dislike.

I noticed injured players are not listed on the depth charts. I liked having them listed instead of having to go back and look all the time. Same with promised starts and PT.

If talent matters then you have to explain to me how SIMs are holding All-American RBs to 2 yards a carry with DLs that have SIM AI recruits of low cores and then are holding the same team to FOUR yards a pass. But then the SIM team beats the Top 25 team almost every time with less talent.

Sorry but your "in house testing" FAILED. Now you have a flawed product on the market and trying to fix it as much as you can without just admitting it is a POS and either giving free seasons or something for us now having to point out how stupid the thing runs.

I dont know what is worse...the limit of 2.5 yards rushing, all the dumb one and two yards passes, the turnovers increased or all of the safeties. I have seen more safeties in the last two days than the last two years! But honeslty in one game I have SEVEN passes of ONE yard. One yard on a trips over the middle, how? It is so dumb I am just not even willing to waste the time to find the golden key that unlocks the logic of this game.

Talent matters IRL.  QB's like Cam Newton, Denard Robinson, and Taylor Martinez (when healthy) have put up pretty eye-popping rushing numbers against D-1 defenses.  However, in this current game, we've got a situation where a 4-man defensive line with only 3 DL on the roster is able to hold a phenomenal rushing team to ~3 ypc.  I understand the need to decrease the overall success rate of rushing the football ... but that's only applicable on teams with comparable talent.

Right now, we have horrifically inferior teams holding elite OL and RB's to 3-4 ypc and while that should happen on rare occasion, its happening all the time right now.

In the old game one of the things that got me was the lack of fumbles by a team that would run the ball 70 times in a game.

If you saw some more fumbles by a team that was running 95-100% of the time combined with the main 5 OL having to stay in the game, combined with RBs getting dinged up due to carrying the ball so much. also limiting how many RBs can sub in and out of a game. A major running game could be slowed down, but not completely stopped.

ddingo is right on with the above statement. No way they should have been able to hold down that running game. We went from very good DLs not being able to stop a running game to nonexistent DL shutting down a running game. How could 3 DL even stay in the game? They would have been totally exhausted.

Because it is all BS

Because it is a bullshit engine setup to give new players a chance to win a national championship without putting in any sort of effort. It should be called Gridiron Randomosity

i tried not to complain too much before i saw a few games but this is BS..  i have -played this sim several times and  always win by 40 or more!  if talent doesnt matter anymore then why bother recruiting?  that was half the fun, battling over good recruits!

Just set your formation practice to 180 and you should beat anyone.
