Maybe if Lebron left Cleveland again I'd root for a team there

Nice standing ovation from the Cleveland fans tonight after KC broke the streak. Also tonight:

Kevin Kiermaier with a Kevin Pillaresque catch.

Cubbies John Lackey and Wilson Contreras double-tossed in pretty comical fashion.

It took 10 seasons, but Kershaw finally did it: gave up his first career grand slam.

Jim Palmer famously never gave up a four-bagger. I assume he has the record, at least among post deadball pitchers, for longest career (19 seasons, 3948 IP) without giving one up?

Stanton cranks his 55th, Judge his 44th.

Baseball versions of Cleveland Indians

My favorite is Bradley Zimmer. Whenever I see him I think "Skinny Frankenstein." This baseball captures that!

like the baseball versions of the Indians. Nice find! Thanks for sharing.

How about Kevin Kiermaier with a Kevin Kiermaieresque catch?

Kevin Kiermaier was "Kevin Pillar" before Kevin Pillar was.

The two Kevins thing is a running gag in this thread.

But yeah, Kiermaier was Pillar before Pillar was, in the same way Gavvy Cravath was Babe Ruth before Babe Ruth was.

To be clear, I'm not comparing Pillar's hitting to Ruth's hitting; I'm comparing his fielding to Ruth's hitting!

I admit it, I'm a shameless Toronto homer.

So yesterday MLB established a new record for home runs in a season. From b-r.com I see that as of today the average team strikes out 8.25 times a game, which would also establish a new record (previous mark was 8.03 K/G from last season).

Somewhere, Whitey Herzog is a-shakin' his head and mutterin' profanities. I see his point (assuming this is what he's a-shakin' and mutterin' about).

Who's the bigger goof here, Neshek or Greinke?

I don't even know Greinke's side of the story, but I'm going to give the edge to Neshek. I'm ignorant about the world of sports memorabilia and what the etiquette around this stuff is, but from my layman's perspective I don't think players should be pestering one another for autographs, especially when they're not teammates/friends and there's no charity involved that's benefiting from it.

im a major autograph collector.....5 sports....i was surprised to find out that many players....even stars like to get autographs from other players...it is a great sign of respect......players of today are prima donas......as neshek said all grienke would have done is put a v on the cards.......today's athletes usually sign a graffiti signature not worth having...........in this instance im sure greinke is a jerk....the cards could have been for neshik or his kids...either way a compliment.........each card would probably not fetch more then 100 to a buyer.....cards are less valuable then photos........im not sure what greinke's value is but a player today would not be looking to make profit like that....im sure it was for him or his kids....i believe ive read that brady has signed for some teamates or other players.

They're on rival teams, and apparently aren't friendly. So why should Neshek expect something for nothing from Greinke? If it was a case of a younger player approaching an older one and saying, "I've always looked up to you" etc., then I can see it. But it seems as if Neshek is just collecting autographs for their monetary value.

If Greinke had a cousin or friend or neighbor approach him and say, "Zack, I'm sort of hurting right now, could you sign some stuff for me to help me get back on my feet?" and Greinke said NO to that request, then I'd agree he's a jerk. I mean, he's still probably kind of a jerk here (if he in fact promised to sign as Neshek claims), but I just can't muster any sympathy for Neshek.

i cant imagine neshek wanted them to sell...to get food money.....they are not worth much for him...........i think greinke should take it as a compliment......and not make a big deal over it....it takes a few seconds of his time. to sign.....i think it is petty.....greinke would only be scribbling on a card....he is a subscribbler.
9/20/2017 3:03 PM
Why does Greinke's autograph on a card mean anything to Neshek? Does Neshek look up to him or admire him in any way? I don't understand the attraction of wanting autographs of people you don't care about, unless it's for financial reasons. I wouldn't mind an autograph of Bob Dylan's, but I wouldn't want Kanye West's autograph unless I could sell it.
