HoJo came in with 91 errors at SS and 8 at 2B for 99 in total, which was both amazing qnd disappointing. So close.

The team finished with 104 wins and 222 errors (MLB128119) so for now I claim bounty number 4.

The DoD team finishes the first half in a really strong position for the + play bounty. 52-29 with 144 + plays. The right side are the stars of the show - Stirnweiss 31, Speaker 22, Blair 19 already. Snuffy should put up a new benchmark for individual players on competitive teams. It would take a disaster to not get to the 90/250 thresholds. It seems like it's a matter of whether or not someone who hasn't commented beats me to the bounty!

I know it doesn’t count because it was in a theme league, but the Dodgers in the Speed League were +1172 S B. They were led by Maury Wills 285 SB. Of course the Golden Glove Catchers were Vlad Guerrero and Frits Meisel (3B). That had a little to do with it, but we all had fun.

My first run at an error team just wrapped up, but not without serious end of season drama. With 9 games left to play we were sitting at 86-67, just needed to go 4-5 to reach 90 wins, and we were tracking for around 375 errors (finished with 370), which wasn't quite the 400 I targeted, but was still far enough removed from the current leaders that I felt it could stand the test of time.

Of our remaining 9 games, the last 4 were against the team tied for the division lead with us and whom we had split the season series, thus far. The first of the other games was my last game against bru081668's 79 Angels team that had won 52 games at that point, and whom I had beaten 11 out of 13 times so far. The other four were against the team with the worst record in the league, they hadn't won 50 at this point, and I'd gone 10-0 so far.

So, of course, I lose the first against bru, lose the next four against the team I hadn't lost to all season, and, figures, that of those 5 losses: 3 were by 1-run, the other two were both by 2-runs, and both the 2-run games were lost in the last AB or in extras.

So, now I was faced with a strange do-or-die of having to sweep to both tie-for the last playoff spot, and reach 90 wins for the bounty. Unfortunately, I lost the first game, before winning the next two and losing the final game. Finished with 88 wins and 370 errors. I'm going to probably just re-enter this same team without any modifications and try again...

At least is wasn’t 89 wins...

HR Attempt Update:

HR attempt 1: 90+ wins, but missed the HR total.
HR attempt 2: 800+ HRs, but missed the win total.
HR attempt 3: I tried to do HR & Errors together and was failing miserably. Hit WW to try to salvage anything. Failed at everything.
HR Attempt 4: 12 games left, tracking for 453 HRs hit & 64 allowed w/ 85 wins. Team started slow w/ 30 HR through first 31 games (Game 32 on has hit HR at 581 HR pace).
HR Attempt 5: Tracking for 769 total HRs (406 hit & 363 allowed), and in 1st place 120 games in (301 & 268 thus far).
HR Attempt 6: Too early for meaningful data (15 games in), tracking for 700+ total HRs and in 1st place (8-7).
HR Attempt 7: Too early for meaningful data (15 games in), tracking for 900+ total HRs and in 2nd place (9-6).
Still trying...

***Has anyone else tried the differential aspect of the bounty? I've tried that twice and one was marginally close, but that one seems harder than intended. Was thinking of lowering the margin from 500 to 450, but thought I'd get feedback based on what others are seeing before changing any bounties that have been live.***

My best differential team is tracking to finish with a difference of 389 HR. Now, if they hit HRs all season like they have for the last 120 games, I'd be tracking for a difference of 517. That's a big difference. One that makes it seem feasible, but ultimately, that's no where near where my best effort thus far is likely to actually finish.
10/1/2020 1:18 AM (edited)
I haven't tried either, but I would think the differential is the way to attack this bounty. If you hit 500 more homers than your opponents, you certainly don't need to worry about winning 90+ games. I've considered this team but I just don't like running too many teams at once - someone feel free to run with it:

C York 35
1b Greenberg 44
2b Zobrist 18
3b Schmidt 48
SS A Rod 47
OF Ruth 46
OF Kiner 54
OF AAA platoon

I've put most of them in Coors in the past and gotten 70-100 homers apiece from Greenberg, Schmidt and Ruth - A Rod and Kiner shouldn't be far behind. That means you're at 350-500 homers among 5 guys, not even including York, Zobrist and AAA which could be another 100. Pitching won't give up many either:

This SB team (and didn't "Wear a Mask" suddenly become a more interesting team name this week...) went 11-4 in the postseason to win the World Series. They were 60-22 in stolen bases, net +38. I toned down the SB frequency for all but the really percentage guys, and benched Hugh Nicol for AAA (1995 Bonilla who hit .418/.562/.582 in the postseason).

So if one of the objectives of these bounties is to prove that you can win an OL with an extreme strategy...consider that box checked.

Also worth noting that Wear a Mask had the best regular season record in the league and still went on to win the World Series. In my experience this happens frequently, but to hear some long time WIS owners tell it, this qualifies as miraculous.
10/3/2020 1:47 PM
Both the best record and the WS title. I love that stuff. With an off-meta team, too. That’s what makes these extra fun.
