Game 106: The Riders get 12 hits and five scoreless innings from the bullpen to beat Baltimore 9-3. Zoilo Versalles continues to blister the opposition with three hits, including a double (Milwaukee's only extra base knock). This is one of the few occasions we've won a game started by Fred Norman, but he went only four innings.
Game 107: It seems like Nate Colbert has been stuck on 18 home runs for a while, but he breaks out of his power slump with a two-run shot today, keying a 4-1 win over the IronBirds. Ron Reed throws eight 5-hit innings to pick up his seventh win. Colbert now has 90 RBI.
Game 108: Milwaukee sweeps Baltimore, a team that owned us the first two seasons of this league. Skip Lockwood throws seven shutout innings; Dave LaRoche and Darold Knowles contribute one each as the Riders squeak by in a 1-0 game. Eddie Leon drives in the only run with a double.

Game 115: Gorman Ely has another impressive performance, allowing only one run in five innings, but Dock Ellis is equally stingy. The game is tied at one entering the bottom of the ninth with Denny Riddleberger on the mound for Milwaukee. Rusty Staub singles to lead off, followed by a George Mitterwald fly ball that hits the foul pole in for a game-winning homer.
Game 116: Fred Norman follows up his first win with a ridiculous performance in which he can't even get out of the first inning. The Mammoths romp, 11-5. Nate Colbert homers and raises his RBI total to 97.

It remains that way as the Riders come to the plate in the bottom of the ninth. Ronny White singles with one out and advances to second on a walk to Ted Ford. Game 134: Willie Vegas hits a three-run pinch hit homer (his first longball of the season) in the ninth inning, giving the Riders a one-run lead, but Carl Yastrzemski ties things up in the bottom half with an RBI single off Darold Knowles. Milwaukee leaves men at the corners in the 11th, then sees Tim McCraw hit a leadoff homer in the 12th to win it for Washington.
Game 135: This one is close until the seventh, when Richie Hebner's grand slam touches off a six-run explosion for the Riders. Washington stages an eighth-inning rally, but can't crawl back far enough. Fred Norman picks up his third win in a 9-5 victory.
