PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

This Favre situation is getting real fukked up. Best case scenario was for him to stay retired and the Packers move on. Next best would've been him unretiring and Thompson keeping him and starting him. The worst is him asking for his release.

Just a bad situation all the way around. I love Favre and I love the Pack. It's like watching your parents get divorced, there are no winners.

Defensive lineman Johnny Jolly was arrested for codeine possession last week; court appearance scheduled for next week, I believe.

hired by the Pack as a distraction

The Brett Circus gets even weirder as the Packers reportedly file tampering charges with the league against the Vikings, citing an "improper discussion" between current Vikings coordinator Darrell Bevell (former UW Badger Rose Bowl hero and former Packer QB coach) and Favre.

AKA Ted Thompson creating some other distraction in order to deflect attention from the mess he and Favre created.

Will you take me to Tampa and will you get me the ring?

I'd rather Favre stay retired but if he wants to play then let him play.

Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy had every right to sit Favre in the 4-12 season and play Rodgers but they didn't. The same for the following season especially when the Pack were 4-8 but they didn't.

Every team except the Packers would have sat their aging qb and give their #1 draft a look but Ted and Mike didn't have the stones to do it for fear of the backlash.

Thompson was hoping Favre would go away sooner rather than later and coudn't or wouldn't do anything until Favre retired.

Once Favre retired Thompson had the upper hand on Brett if he wanted to return which is where we are at right now.

Favre shouldn't have demanded his starting job back because they already said Rodgers was #1, they can't go back on their word.

So the Packers head into the season with a qb who was drafted in the 1st round 4 years ago with little experience. Favre won't return as a backup and it would be way too much pressure on Rodgers if he was on the sideline anyways.

I can't see Favre returning to Green Bay and I can't see the Packers just releasing him.

Favre will be traded, probably for draft picks, to an AFC team.

And I was awfully disappointed Greta didn't wear her cheesehead while interviewing him. Man, has that show gone from almost average to tabloid news.

I enjoyed that, kermit. Tremendously.

Didn't GB go on to win their last 4 games in '06? That made it tough to bench Favre too. GB management has totally fcked this up

Various sources reporting that the Packers are talking trade with various teams.. profootballtalk.com went so far as to say the Packers had presented Favre with a list of three teams that would be potential trade partners and that Brett rejected all three.

Chris Mortensen from ESPN says that the commissioner got involved and told the Packers to do something.

Brett ain't the sharpest pencil... using a Packers cell phone to contact the Vikings. That'll cost him.

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) - color="#0069aaBrett" Favre knows how to call an audible. A phone call could be another matter.

Favre made “repeated” calls to a pair of color="#0069aaMinnesota" Vikings coaches using a cell phone issued by the color="#0069aaGreen" Bay Packers, according to a story in Tuesday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Citing sources, the newspaper reported that the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback made numerous calls to both Vikings coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

Green Bay officials learned of the phone calls by checking the phone records, according to the Journal Sentinel.

The revelation comes a week after the Packers filed tampering charges against the Vikings for inappropriate dialogue with Favre, who announced his retirement in March but asked Green Bay to reinstate him earlier this month.

Minnesota officials declined to comment on the tampering charges last week, releasing a brief statement that such matters are handled by the league.

Bevell, who served as the quarterbacks coach for the Packers from 2003-05, remains close with Favre so the thinking goes that even a heavy volume of phone calls between the two might not constitute tampering.

However, if the three-time Most Valuable Player was making calls to Childress, particularly before Favre asked the Packers to release him so he could play for another team, Green Bay’s case would be considerably strengthened.

The Journal Sentinel also reported that the color="#0069aaBaltimore" Ravens turned down a trade proposal for Favre, who was told by the Packers he could return in a backup role.

Meanwhile, the NFL Network reported that Green Bay is sending out feelers to assess Favre’s value on the trade market.

The Packers have spoken to teams in both conferences about a potential deal, according to the report.
