St Louis Cardinals WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!! Topic

Both those years were roughly similar to this year, yes. And he'd been garbage from 2004 on prior to this year, so there's legitimate questions as to whether he can repeat it.

Although I think the more relevant discussion regarding Piniero as it relates to the Cardinals 2010 rotation is simply whether he will be a part of it. The Cards aren't big spenders, and I'm guessing some pitching starved team will come along and pay Pinerio like a #2, especially given how weak the class is for free agent starters.

A sinkerball pitcher would look awful good wearing the pinstripes and pitching in the new Bronx homer-dome. I can see where the Yankees might make a play for him as a #3 or #4 in the rotation...

That is always a possibility as well.

I wasn't aware Piniero was a FA.

Watch the Cubs sign him, forcing me to slobber all over him.

If Piniero went the the American League he would get absolutely lit up. Especially in the East. He doesn't have the mental makeup to pitch in New York. He was already terrible in Boston.

With alot of dead money off the books, I'd make a decent offer to Holliday, if he balks then go after Bay...Figgins is an option, but if DeRosa is healthy I'd be content to open the season with him at 3rd...He toughed out '09 with a bum wrist, and could have dogged it but didn't...Hate to think Holliday was only a rental...Smoltz? I dunno, he's probably not a top 4 starter anymore. He could work like hell over the winter and get back some velocity. I'd hate to bet against the guy, he's always been a horse...Why not bring back Pineiro? The guy developed a great sinker, and was a very productive #3 behind Carp/Waino...Ankiel...Wow, potential is there, but can he get good enough at the plate? Wondering if McGwire could make a difference working with him...LaRue is a good backup to have, and calls a good game. The guy showed he's always ready when called upon...Are there better backup catchers out there that want that role?

I was merely making the point that they could afford to spend the money, due to that dead money off the books...Some of the young guys are up for raises, but they can lock them up and still afford to resign Pineiro and Holliday, and have enough to take care of Albert...
