That's the way we roll here, ted. Just go with it.

Call it what you will. I don't really have trouble with it either way. Respect it, tolerate it, think I'm an *******. I can live with any and all three.

You're the one who used "respect" like one should respect your opinion even if it's stupid and illogical. Courteous and considerate certainly have their place in the world. I chose to be neither in this instance. Although, to be fair, I didn't attack you personally. You may have a lot of good ideas, the "random draft" one was not one of them.

But, if you're waiting for some sort of apology, I'd suggest buying a box of Snickers. It's gonna be awhile.

Here ya' go, buddy!!!

Common courtesy is not so common for a few people around here. Best thing is to ignore them if at all possible.

Perhaps I should have been more precise and used the word "respectful"; but I think it is clear from my post that I wasn't asking for your personal respect, and to reply with the tired "respect is earned" line was insincere and kind of lame.

Not looking for an apology. Just having a discussion.

And, of course, if you are waiting for me to say, "you are right MikeT23, being rude is the best way to interact with strangers," well, then I would suggest buying a bag of Cheetos, because it will be awhile.

Because I'm a nice guy, don't link porn. ADMIN doesn't take kindly to that. So, if you have a post linking porn, I'd suggest deleting it. ADMIN has checked this thread. No reason to think they won't check again.

You're welcome.

Maybe this is more to your liking:

Courtesy and consideration are earned. You haven't earned it nor are you currently earning it. But, nonetheless, I gave a some good advice.

Thanks for the tip. It was supposed to be a picture of big girls eating cheetos, but not naked or anything. When I pasted the picture it showed up, but when I posted it was just a link to some porn site. Deleted.

Back to the discussion: We clearly have very different belief structures. I don't think that courtesy is something that must be earned, I think it is a core value in civil society. But apparently you think that being polite is a burden because, as you say, "you have to step around people's feelings." I think that is exceptionally selfish and instead believe that politeness and civility are a baseline of what we owe each other in society. So, I think you have things backwards: I think courtesy is the default, and hostility is something you "earn".

Of course you say that anyone who bristles at your blunt and rude behavior has thin skin; and if they don't like your behavior then they can call you an *******, because you don't care. Well, again, that is extremely selfish and considers the dispute only from your perspective: We (being those who appreciate civility) don't want to call you an *******; we don't want you to be an ******* in the first place.

And, for the record, I don't think you are being an *******. Just picking up on your rhetoric and using it for discussion.

Also, my picture kicks your picture's rump.

Yes, we do. I'd much rather people get to the point and say what's on their mind. I'd far prefer a smack in the face to a knife in the back. If that means brutal honesty is the way to get there, so be it.

I can't think of anything worse than 10 minutes of idle chitchat and, when you walk away, someone saying "What a jerk." Knock it out in the first minute and save us both 9 minutes. No need for fake civility.

I share your belief structure, as you call it. Given that, I have some bad news for you. If you're really a newbie on this site, and not just another alias, you will find the WIS forums particularly disappointing. To get a look at what to expect, check out The Pit. Take that level of vulgarity and immaturity and mix in large measures ill-informed opinions about sports and a pinch of both common sense and informed opinion, and you have a glimpse of what lies ahead of you on these forums. What you have encountered so far is merely the tip of a disheartening iceberg. This very thread will undoubtedly provide examples of what I speak.

GL with your teams, in which you will find more enjoyment than in the forums.

Yep, it's way better to say, "your idea is stupid" instead of "I dislike your idea".

It's a good way to discern intelligence on a forum.
1/12/2010 3:48 PM
For people who dislike forums, you spend an awful lot of time here.
