Another Tragedy Caused by an Armed Citizen Topic

What I find fascinating is what is happening up here in Canada with the banning attempt of the Sikh's Kirpan daggers.

What's so interesting about it is that these ceremonial daggers are not dulled, but rather sharpened.
And an even more fascinating fact is what they symbolize:
- meant only as a defensive measure to physically protect the oppressed, even by actual cutting usage of the kirpan (my paraphrase of wikipedia)

Hmmm, so the left/Liberal Canadian government is for "the right to bear arms" when it's of a religious nature, but completely against it otherwise?
Wow!
Nah, it must be that they're just flattering for votes.

I am not talking about armed for daily activities. I am talking about armed to avert tragedy.

A nut case shooting up a school is about the only thing we cant blame on the current liberal education system!
There is no excuse for your ignorance swamp. It is because of people like you that I feel strongly that the time has come to repeal the right to bear arms.
There is no excuse for you not understanding simple logic. If you take gunsaway from all the law abiding people only criminals and nuts will have guns.

It is because of people like you that I am glad the founding fathers wanted me to protect myself and made it part of the Bill of Rights...not some side note on the side, but the actual bill of rights with freedom of speech and trial by jury!

OK, I'll put it another way.   You seem to think teachers are paragons of virtue.  They aren't.   I dated and lived with one.  Had a one-nighter with a couple others.  They are just as nutty as every other woman.   By bringing a weapon into the classroom, you run the risk of one of them freaking out and killing a kid under the self-defense umbrella.   If not that, a kid could get the weapon and lay waste to the classroom in a fit of rage.    Weapons have no place in school.

I'm reminded of Archie Bunker explaining how to stop hijackings.   Give everyone a gun when they get on the plane.

I wonder how soon swamp will be moving to South Dakota:

Apparently that paper doesn't like people linking to them. Idiots.

Possible that you can just link to the front page for the source?  Some sites don't like you linking directly to their content because is allows you to bypass a few layers of ads they can throw at you.

I think teachers are about the same as all the other college educated professionals. They are good for the most part and probably have sex.

The question is do we want some crazy kid to be the only armed person in the whole building?

And we can make some level of security to access the gun. It isnt like home security where you need quick access.

Are you arguing FOR gun control?  Because it almost looks like you are.   Maybe we do everything possible to make sure crazy kids don't get guns.  Let's start by not putting them under lock and key in the classroom.

The vast majority of Americans will never commit a violent felony. Letting them carry UZIs will not create a problem.

We need to allow the many to protect us from the few!

That's actually been MY argument.   Except I said they're incaple of committing a murder.

However, that has absolutely nothing to do with teachers carrying guns so they can stop that very infrequent school massacre by firing shots into a lunchroom crowded with hundreds of children.

Yes, and those sites are run by idiots. That rationale just leads to fewer page views and thus less ad revenue.

So the real threat is armed law abiding citizens? School massacres are not common so defeding against them is crazy?

We need to look at guns as tools. They are not a threat unless someone chooses to kill with them.

The threat is crazy people.   Anyone who thinks they need a gun to take down some unruly 4th graders might just be crazy.

Trust me, I'm fine with guns.  I own guns.   But, on the odd chance I'm attending a function with a bunch of kids, I'm not packing.

swamp isn't very good with risk/reward analysis.
2/1/2011 7:56 PM

I think the fact that honest law abiding citizens carrying weapons represents very little threat.

And the idea that an armed citizen creates a threat because a crazy person might steal their gun is laughable. Someone run down that scenario for me. And then there would be another armed teacher somewhere. As opposed to a Columbine where the crazy person brings the gun from ourside and can terrorize for a long period while the police respond.

You just need to cling to the old myths that having a gun is a greater risk than being unarmed.
