You will notice that the Dems are trying to make this about as narrow a topic as possible. Top rate, or compare to Buffet's secretary.

What they dont want to discuss is the subtle way that government as a whole has crept into our lives.

We pay more taxes, if you count everything that is actually a tax.

Government is out of control. It wants to do everything.

It must me limited in its scope!

REAGEN RAISED TAXES 11 TIMES

LOOK UP THE BEST JOB CREATION NUMBERS IN OUR HISTORY

ALL CAME DURING HIGHER TAX RATES

WORST? AFTER LOWER RATES
Reagan CUT taxes.
He then raised taxes 11 times during his two terms, but even after the 11th increase he hadn't reversed what he had done, he wound up using up about half of his original cut..
Still lower taxes, as a whole, during his 8 yrs, no matter how you spin it.

The federal debt when Bush left office: $10,626,877,048,913.08
The federal debt in 2010 $14.8 trillion

That represents roughly a 50% increase in his first 2 years.
That is unprecedented.

In all fairness, a good portion, (not half, but definitely pertinent) can be pinned on the cost of the Bush led wars.

Even if you deduct that amt, Obama has still added to the debt at a much faster rate than any other president.
If we want to be fair to Obama we should also consider the 2008 meltdown.  You really dont think that absolutely killed the economy therefore adding a lot of debt because costs stayed the same, (in fact rose because of the stimulus packages) meanwhile revenues fell of the cliff.

A meltdown that Obama had nothing to do with may I remind you?

I think that the Obama Debt Reduction speech showed a lot about the way the left thinks about government.

He laid it out. Either the Government takes in more money, or America collapses. The only thing standing between us and total ruin is the government.

There is no waste. There is nothing in the whole government that isnt important.

That pretty much sums it up. Raise taxes or kids and seniors die!

You say that like it's a bad thing.   A little population reduction wouldn't hurt America.
