Now now boys...there's no reason to get personal.

Look everyone knows I'm a Hawks fan, but even I'll admit that, for the long-term health of the franchise a deal needs to be made. Yes muddy, maybe they can fit everyone they need to fit under next year's cap, but what happens if the cap goes down the year after? The team needs some more flexibility. They've got way too many long-term deals. It's not that any of them are bad players per se, but when ALL your players are locked up to deals over 3 years, that leaves very little wiggle room for bringing in new players. Teams that win multiple Cups rarely do so without bringing in a new face or two, simply because it keeps the team hungry.

Now in my mind, the only 2 must-signs left are Troy Brouwer and Michael Frolik. Outside that, the top priority should be to find a suitor for Brian Campbell. If they bring back this same team, the only way they'll be better is if no top 6 forward and no top 4 defensemen miss any time due to injury next year, something that is EXTREMELY rare in today's NHL, or if, and this is a big if, one or two of the young guys (Morin, Beach, Pirri, Paradis, Kruger, Lalonde, Olsen) are ready to step in to a regular role, which is expecting alot at this stage of their development.

The cap won't be going down much, if at all, in the next 10 years thanks to the new TV deal, which ties DIRECTLY to the cap.  10 years, 2 billion dollars buys a lot of cap space.  Even if it does go down, it won't be much and after Campbell's deal expires or we deal him we'll have lots of space to lock up Toews and Kane forever. 

This team is in far better shape than after last season.  Our future is awfully bright as well.

I'm not denying the Hawks are in much better shape than at this time last season, and I still believe that, given the choices they had to make, they kept the right guys. I just think there is one more deal on the horizon. They can't keep relying on sub-1 mil. dollar players playing over their heads on the 3rd and 4th lines. They need to have the flexibility to add a 1.25-1.5 million dollar grinder/penalty killer or two if their gonna make another Cup run. They have enough offense to do it, and they have good enough goaltending, but they need to tighten up their PK, reduce the amount of turnovers and bring down their scoring chances against. Those 3 things were their undoing both during the season and in the playoffs.

I agree about getting the PK in order.  The PP really hit the skids at the end of the year as well after being ranked in the top 3 most of the year.  The beauty of this is that we don't need to add a huge scorer or shutdown d-man.  We need to add some depth and grindiness, which is not usually very pricey.

all kidding aside Muddtard ..what are the links like out there in Arizona? i know the Hawks have been there for awhile ..are the greens lightning fast ? what is the stimpmeter readings?
