One of my favorite players. If only his defense at first didn't blow so bad. The switch-hitting would make robusk cream himself.
Yeah...  he is good.

I still haven't seen anyone with a Woodie Jacobs type bat.

I probably did Jacobs a disservice by playing him in Pittsburgh for ever, but his OPS is still awesome.

Wow, that is one hell of a 14th pick.

Jacobs isn't someone you see come around very often, but I was smitten with him the second he was available in the draft. The fact that Jacobs can even play moderately effective defense is astounding, given his doubleplus good bat. The fact that he can reliably play a position like that where others tank is pretty awesome.

I feel lucky to have Christman in that world, but being in the NL I sometimes wonder if I could package him for something that would make more sense defensively as well.

It's a ****** world, but he also was a moderate signing risk. Conservative teams would have passed on him.

The fact that Jacobs went 15th in HR that year is insane. Of course, there were a few quality guys ahead of him. I could see Davies and Orie going higher.

I wound up getting a lower middle class Jacobs when I somehow got Hong Jin Sugawara real late in that same draft. Definitely was a deep draft.

Ah ok. Dick Rhodes in $ would've been the same way for me if he didn't spend 2 full seasons on the DL...he's still a servicable ML starter now, but nothing compared to what he could've been.

I thought Rhodes was good coming out into the draft.

Yeah, he is exceptional.  I usually play him at DH because he ends up getting more ABs and I can put slightly better D there.  I would have no qualms at all at playing him at C in the NL though.

Christman is nice...  trade him to a more meaningful world.

Yeah...  solid draft but given that Jacobs is a one of a kind player, anything below top five seems crazy to me.

I think I got Briggs at 14 like two drafts later.

A problem is a lot of teams picking early in draft are either picking there because they don't know what they're doing and maybe don't budget well enough, or they're new owners who can't budget that well anyway. So there are usually a few really good players that slip into the teens.

NL teams with a 1b men in the system won't look at him.  Also, look at how many pitchers are taken in the first historically, maybe you have a pitching heavy drafters.
