Game 70: Greg Gagne's home run sparks a five-run eighth inning and the Spectres rally for a 9-6 win over Cincinnati. Rick Aguilera throws a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.

Game 71: Chuck Finley scatters 10 hits and Eddie Murray hits a two-run double as the Spectres win their second straight, 3-1 over the Stingers.

Game 72: Charlie Hough may be 3-8, but he still has a magic touch against the Spectres. He throws eight scoreless innings and the Stingers salvage the finale, 3-0.

Montreal is off to the West Coast to face San Diego.

Game 73: Scott Erickson throws eight shutout innings against an exhausted San Diego lineup, and the Spectres get a home run from Ken Griffey Jr. in a 2-0 series-opening victory.

Game 74: Randy Velarde hits two home runs, giving him three for the season, and drives home five. Montreal puts seven on the board in the second and cruises to a 12-9 win over the Leaguers.

Game 75: Winless Bob Welch holds the Spectres to four hits in six innings of work and the Leaguers take the finale, 10-3.

Montreal returns home to face St. Louis (41-34).

Game 76: This is a scoreless affair until Jay Buhner's eighth-inning single drives home a run. In the top of the ninth, however, Rick Aguilera surrenders a leadoff double to former Spectre Andre Dawson, who comes around to score on Ray Lankford's single. It's Aguilera's first blown save of the season. St. Louis scores again in the 10th off Bob Wickman and the Blue Storm take the opener 2-1.

Game 77: Alex Fernandez scatters 10 hits (walking none) and outpitches Jose Rijo as the Spectres even the series with a 9-1 win. Rijo falls to 10-2, allowing home runs to Ken Caminiti and Jay Buhner.

Game 78: Chuck Finley outduels Dennis Martinez, striking out eight batters in eight scoreless innings, and the Spectres take the series with a 2-0 win in the finale.

Montreal closes the first half out with a trip to Atlanta.

Game 79: Montreal scores six times in the first, getting home runs from Ken Griffey Jr. and Brady Anderson; Scott Erickson makes it through seven innings to earn his fourth win of the season as the Spectres hang on for a 13-10 win. Eddie Murray and Ken Caminiti add home runs later.

Game 80: Mark Gubicza has control problems, walking seven batters in 2.1 innings. The Spectres take advantage just enough for another high-scoring victory, 9-7. Bob Wickman gets the win in relief (despite allowing three runs in two innings).

Game 81: Young Atlanta star Kevin Brown shuts down the Spectres, and Dave Burba gets rocked. Atlanta takes the finale, 15-4. Montreal ends the first half at 32-49.

We start the second half with a visit from San Francisco.

Tony Phillips and Rick Aguilera are named to the All Star roster.

Game 82: The second half starts poorly as San Francisco's Ken Hill throws 7.2 innings of two-hit ball. Orlando Reid throws five shutout frames for Montreal but it is all for naught as the 69ers shut us out, 2-0.

Game 83: Frisco's Nolan Ryan walks six batters; Ron Karkovice has three hits; and Alex Fernandez is brilliant for seven innings as the Spectres even the series with a 4-2 win. Rick Aguilera gets his 20th save.

Game 84: The nondescript John Doherty basically shuts down the Spectres until an eighth inning error leads to three unearned runs. That rally is not enough, however, as the Niners win the series with a 5-3 victory in the finale.

Interleague sets with PL contenders Chicago, Boston, and Seattle are next on the docket.

Game 94: Montreal puts up three crooked numbers, including a five-run seventh inning, and holds on for a 10-8 win over Cincy. Rick Aguilera throws a scoreless ninth inning for his 24th save, lowering his ERA to 1.24. Ron Karkovice and Randy Velarde hit home runs for the Spectres.

Game 95: Scott Erickson has a typical poor start. Jay Buhner homers and drives home four runs, but the Spectre rally falls short when Eddie Murray grounds out with Buhner on second base to end the ninth. Cincinnati wins, 7-6.

Game 96: Bob Wickman throws six quality innings, but gets no support, from either his batters (only a Greg Gagne two-run double prevents a shutout) or his bullpen (Scott Sanders and Tony Fossas combine to allow three runs) as Cincy takes the series with a 5-2 win.

Montreal hosts Houston next.

Game 97: Alex Fernandez allows only two unearned runs in seven innings of work to outduel Fernando Valenzuela and beat the Lone Stars, 4-2. It's Fernandez' 10th win of the season. Eddie Murray hits two doubles and scores twice.

Game 98: Chuck Finley lasts only two innings, and the Lone Stars feast on the mediocre Spectre bullpen, routing Montreal 13-2.

Game 99: Leadoff man Tony Phillips drives home four runs and Scott Erickson limits Houston to a single run in eight innings as the Spectres defeat the Lone Stars 8-1 in the series finale.

Montreal heads to Wrigley Field to face the Bootleggers.

Game 100: Eddie Taubensee hits a two-run homer in the sixth to put Montreal on the board, and then an RBI single in the seventh as the Spectres take a lead. In the end, Montreal scores an 8-6 win over Chicago with Willie Blair getting his second win of the season.

Game 101: Chicago has big innings in the third, fourth and fifth, dealing Alex Fernandez his sixth loss, 11-5. Willie Blair drives in his first run of the year with a double.

Game 102: Chuck Finley throws eight innings of 3-hit ball, Eddie Murray has four hits, and the Spectres take the series finale, 8-0.

Montreal heads home to take on San Diego.

Game 103: Scott Erickson pitches seven strong innings, then loads the bases with none out in the eighth before giving way to Jim Gott. Gott allows two singles and a walk, bringing home four runs, and the Leaguers steal a 6-4 win from Montreal.

Game 104: Suddenly San Diego is unbeatable. Jim Deshaies shuts down the Spectres for eight innings, and a three-run rally in the ninth isn't enough. San Diego wins 6-4.

Game 105: Montreal finally manages to beat San Diego, pounding out 17 hits in a 15-4 win that features five RBI from Ken Caminiti. Alex Fernandez strikes out eight while walking none to win his 11th game.

The Spectres head to St. Louis to take on the Blue Storm.

Game 106: Montreal scores eight times in the fourth inning, but Jim Gott has another disastrous outing. St. Louis scores four times in the eighth and steals a 10-9 win in the opener. Ken Griffey Jr. homers for the Spectres. Interesting note: Greg Gagne drives home his 70th run of the season, two more than Griffey Jr.

Game 107: Scott Erickson fails to get out of the third inning and exits with the Spectres trailing 6-0. Montreal plays respectably thereafter but cannot overcome that deficit, dropping a 10-6 decision. Scott Sanders faces four batters in his relief appearance; three of them score.

Game 108: Bob Wickman vs. Greg Maddux. No surprises here, the Blue Storm complete a sweep of Montreal with a 7-3 victory. Ken Griffey Jr. drives home two runs to pass Greg Gagne for second place on the team.

Montreal has Atlanta coming to town next (45-63)

Game 109: Alex Fernandez throws eight shutout innings and Ken Griffey Jr. drives home five runs as the Spectres snap their skid with an 8-0 win over Atlanta.

Game 110: Atlanta's Brian McRae commits an error that leads to four unearned runs in the fifth, and the Spectres win 7-2. Chuck Finley becomes the second Spectre to reach 10 wins.

Game 111: Things are going well until Jay Buhner drops a fly ball in the seventh, keying a five-run explosion by Atlanta that gives the Tomahawks a 5-3 win.

Montreal heads west to face San Francisco.

Game 112: Ken Griffey Jr.'s three-run homer in the second makes it 6-0 Montreal, but the 69ers battle back, tying the score with three unearned runs off reliever Willie Blair (courtesy of an Eddie Murray error). Montreal scores two times in the top of the ninth to regain the lead and turns things over to closer supreme Rick Aguilera. Aguilera doesn't have his best stuff today, though. He walks the leadoff man and then allows consecutive doubles to tie the score. Tom Edens arrives and retires one batter, but Paul Sorrento's single scores the winner.

Game 113: Montreal evens the series behind Alex Fernandez, who wins his 13th game. Ron Karkovice drives home two runs and the Spectres win 5-3.

Game 114: The series finale is a slugfest; luckily Montreal does most of the slugging. Ken Caminiti has three doubles and five RBI; Eddie Murray drives in four to reclaim the team lead; Eddie Taubensee adds three hits for good measure; and the Spectres win 18-11. Chuck Finley gets credit for the win despite allowing seven runs.

Montreal returns home to face Los Angeles.
