PACKERS: Datone Jones is latest DL bust drafted Topic

Brady Poppinga reached terms on a contract extension, although the terms weren't released. He is expected to compete for a starting job with FA signee Brandon Chillar, and even if he loses he is expected to be a vital contributor on special teams and a situational pass rusher.

I heard two reports in the last two days on the radio.. not sure where they came from.

#1) Packers could be in trouble if they are issuing cell phones to players and not accounting for it under the salary cap... such "benefits" are not allowed.

#2) Packers don't issue cell phones to players, where did THAT story come from? The evil media must have made it all up.

TT ain't the sharpest pencil... using a Packers cell phone to have a lackey contact the Vikings and then claim that it was Favre that called them. That'll cost him.

NFL.com reports that Brett has told Ted Thompson he intends to report for camp Sunday; presumably will file for reinstatement today. This story indicates that Brett appears to be ready to spend season with Packers.

Some other reports, however, say that the Jets have been given permission to talk to Brett's agent.

The Packers do issue cell phones to players.

Could the Packers please sign Ryan Grant.

Brett has backed off on his much-publicized plans to report to Packers' training camp today, telling Peter King that GM Ted Thompson had asked him to hold off for a couple of days to give Ted time to work out a deal. Brett told King he doesn't want to be a "distraction". A little late for that, my country bumpkin friend.

He also expressed hope that commissioner Roger Goodell would intercede as an arbitrator. Not really his position, Brett.

Ryan Grant's agent termed the Packers' initial contract offer "insulting" and seems to think his client should be getting close to Devin Hester money.

The papers are signed.

Now will the Packers allow him to practice?

NFL confirms the league has received Brett's petition for reinstatement. Commissioner will take no action today.

In other camp news: Letting Corey Williams go (traded to Cleveland for 2nd round choice that became Brian Brohm rather than sign him to big deal) is looking worse and worse by the day. Justin Harrell suffered an injury in April and recently had a setback in his recovery, hinting yesterday that he may need season-ending surgery. Meanwhile Johnny Jolly faces charges of codeine possession in Texas, which will likely lead to a suspension if convicted. And Ryan Pickett has been sitting out early in camp with a "minor" injury.
