Just sent this ticket in...

Contrary to the response many have gotten ("A temporary workaround is to shutdown the login window and try again as it's not really down, but there are occasional temporary hangs.)" the problem is more than logging in again. We get stuck at the Validating Login screen when Live goes down. We restart our browsers, try different browsers, clear cookies, restart computers, and still we are stuck.

While a revamp of Live would be nice, most of us would be perfectkly satisfied if we could just count on playing the game as it exists today. As it is, people are giving away teams and leaving the site, and Live leagues are becoming very hard to fill because of the frustration. If the problem isn't fixed soon, there won't be any need to revamp Live because no one will be to play it.

Hey guys, I've been looking into this, so forgive me if you've been through this before, but I'm trying to find out more info.

When you say "it is down" are you seeing it get stuck on the validating login or does it display an error?

I've seen it personally get stuck on the validating login and then all of a sudden after trying again, it gets through. I've checked the server and there are no exception getting thrown and it appears the server apps are actually up (other than the Friday morning reboot). Looking at the java console when this happens, it appears it is not actually connecting to the server, or at least not able to send the actual login message. When this happens, there is no login acknowledgement and it just sits there waiting to "validate login". This indicates something funky on the client and I would suspect it has something to do with the Java Runtime.

That's not to say there are not other issues, but this is the most likely cause for this specific behavior.

So...

1. I need to verify that getting stuck on "validating login" is what people are referring to most often when they say the server is down. If there are other issues can you let me know. The more info we have on exactly what is happening, the better.

2. If someone is encountering this problem consistently, can you download the latest Java Runtime by opening the Java window in your Control Panel and then clicking the "Update" button on the bottom of the Update tab? See if that makes any difference. The automatic Java update doesn't always pick up the latest version, so going through this process will ensure it is the latest (which I think is something like build 20 at this time).

What most of us are seeing, are games being frozen all at once. When you exit out, and try to come back in...one receives the validating login. It appears that we are all getting this at the same time, so it isn't coming from our end. Plus, when we can get back in after some time, the game we were playing is still sitting there where we off. The games aren't crashing in these instances....just stalling.

Thanks. That might mean there is something going on with some hardware between the server and the clients. Now...how to track that down...

thanx norbert i forgot to mention you in my sitemail to admin that you and trentz actually are trying to help. But like habs said it is freezing and then when you exit it puts you on that validate login screen. Also a lot of times in the mornings when no one is, it wont let you log in.

Another weird thing:

When we get 'locked' out or whatever you want to call it, on the standings page under live play it still lists all the users locked out as being on live, even though it is impossible since no one can get on live at that moment.

Shutting down the login screen and trying to restart has never worked for me, just so they know. When it doesn't it work, it is for at least half an hour at time.

This really sucks balls. At least I got to sub my reliever in this time instead of Sparky doing it for me.

I can't even call up a player now. This is really getting out of hand now.

It is working now...went back up about 4 minutes after it went down.

Down....again....
