I'd bet Miket23 is fat,out of shape, and pampers the hell out of his American ***.

Since he claims to spend almost as much on beer as groceries I think he must be close to 3 bills at this point.

Nah, I just eat healthy.   Like chicken and rice.  Which is cheap.

Getting back on topic: this sums up the hypocrisy of the Occupiers pretty well:

I just saw a video that sums up why you should never try to be a smartass if you might fail on the "smart" half of the attempt. Between the unemployed hipster stereotype, the ridiculous oversimplification of the issues, and the whole "boycott" non-sequitur (I don't think too many small-government conservatives are going to refrain from using the infrastructure, or using the services of the fire and police departments), I made it 70 seconds in before the bs overload was too much. A rickroll would have been preferable.

Edit: I forced myself to sit through more of it. He says a couple half-worthwhile things about consumerism toward the end, but even those comments are dumbed down by overgeneralizations. Still mostly bs, rickroll still preferable.

The predictable reference to Republicans is so off target, it is more pathetic than the usual leftist hypocrisy.

Rep congress: You want us to pass a bill that spends X amt of tax dollars to fund police and fire departments?
Awesome, now what are we cutting so that we can actually be responsible in our budgeting and spending?

Dems: We will cut nothing! These people are necessary to the safety of our constituents.

Rep congress: Agreed. So, can we find something less important to cut that would allow us to pay for this bill?

Dems to any media outlet: Republicans are against policemen and firemen! They refuse to pass ANYTHING! America can't afford to play politics in this economic climate!

I'm not sure if that was meant to respond to my post or not. If it was, I suspect you saw the words "fire" and "police" and paid no attention to meaning or context.

Please enlighten me as to meaning and context.

It seems that as the guy in the vid is calling out the protesters for using the products/services of the "evil corporations" they are against.
So then your retort about small gov't conservatives using the services of the police and fire dept shows that they must be equally hypocritical as they just voted against the funding.

What did I miss?

I was saying that neither is hypocritical.

Fair enough

To expand on that, the example was just plain silly. Of course you're going to be buying certain products and services from corporations in a society where corporations are ubiquitous. Just as you'll be getting police and fire protection from the government, when that's how these functions are handled in this society.

I think you are right to a certain degree.
However one of the biggest problems with the people of the country as a whole is, they aren't willing to give up conveniences and luxuries, even if some of these are produced by the very corporations they are disgusted with.

For example, I never buy gas from BP since the disaster in the gulf. Even if it is less convenient (as they are right on the corner near my house) or more costly in some instances.
It is a conscious decision that I hold firmly to.

I believe if more people actually lived what they claim to believe, they would have a bigger impact and more credibility.

Of course. that being said, I don't know that BP is in dire straits due to losing my business, but I still can not bring myself to put another dime of my money into their coffers.

I copied this from the bottom of the article.

Combelic said he doesn't think fellow Occupy Wall Street protesters will be too eager to don trademarked "Occupy" clothing.

"We already make T-shirts down there for free, screen-printing on site," he said. "We think that organic individual marketing -- making our own buttons or T-shirts -- is more valuable."

I think more of this is exactly what I was referencing in my previous post.

Also, I think it is disingenuous to take something one OWS supporter does and use it to cast aspersions on the whole lot.

Spending time giving these people any recognition is pretty much a waste of time.  I'll start by using this as a base "certain products and services",   Can't really disagree.   However, it seems to me that the OWS people would be minimalists.   And I have no problem at all with that.    I didn't watch much of the video, simply because I assumed he was just making up a scenario and, after about 30 seconds, you know what it is.   But, if there's anyone protesting with a mobile phone or ipad or designer clothing, they should be protesting themselves.   Either you're fine with corporate greed or you're not.   And, if you're not, don't feed it with unnecessary luxuries.  And, if you're against it but supporting them by buying their products, don't start protesting it.

Isn't your last point merely the Dems taking a lesson from the Repubs?  I seem to recall, in the aftermath of 9/11, as the Republicans were preparing to slowly erode our Constitutional rights by ramming the Patriot Act through Congress - if a member of Congress, mostly a Democrat dared to utter a word of protest, there were cries of un-American! You're either with us or against us!

Republicans are just as hypocritical as the Democrats.
