The US Government has no right to marry anyone.  That is a mixing of church and state.  They should be only allowed to create personal partnerships.
agreed. Left and right find common ground.
Religious ceremony if the couple chooses, but a civil ceremony for all the "legal" stuff. Problem solved.
I wish I had the money or the time to waste on this.  Put it into the courts and the government would lose.

I actually tend to agree with this.  The govt should recognize unions that are created by churches, synagogues, etc.  Let the individual churches decide.

My main problem with all this is that the reality is that civil unions give gay couples the same equality under the law.  But they want "marriage", which is historically a religious union based on the ability to procreate.  Further, this whole push is by a party that spits on religion.
So what to 'straight people" who don't believe in God suppose to do for weddings then?

Typical liberal.

Anyone that disagrees with you is either stupid, crazy or evil.

simple...the same civil ceremony. And nothing would prohibit gay marriage in a church if that was something that church believed was permissible.

Sort of what they do, dare I say it and invite a comment from Swamp, in Europe, a religious ceremony if one chooses, followed by a civil ceremony at the town hall or courthouse (or vice versa)

So the idea that Marriage policies does not rise to the level of Civil Rights is immature?

The fact that I dont buy into your rhetoric and respond to the actual issue and not the emotional response makes me an idiot?

Really?

No, just a question to your solution you offered. Not everyone believes in God.

Romney went full birther today at a rally in Michigan saying, "No one ever asked to see my birth certificate."

There is at least one religion that you yourself can become a minister by taking a brief online course.  I'm sure one of those ministers would marry atheists.  Of course if you are an atheist, why get forced into a religious ceremony announcing your merger?

Joke.  Perhaps the Obama campaign should not have joked about dogs or called Romney a felon.

Re those that do not believe in religion or God, they get a civil union if a church will not take them.  Even if a church marries you, in the eyes of Govt. you are civilly unioned!

There, done.  Everyone is happy.

Now, on to abortion!
