Yeah but more size also means more income. And the list is filled with smaller and larger populations, trading spots. So yes, size is important, but it's also about how you use it.
To be serious, size incorporates not just population but geography. Over 50% of Sweden's population lives within 10 metropolicies. 22% live around Stockholm. Not only is the US 31 times bigger in population but 22 times bigger in geographic size. All of this matters where costs are concerned. You are making an apples to oranges comparison.
Equally important, the criteria used to make such lists are not unbiased. Those lists are opinions being presented as facts by authors with a very overt agenda.
