Can't figure out how to get this 25M Babe on the team.

I think that was kind of the point.

Big Scungili was kind enough to leave a proxy for his third round screw pick for CLW/

) 1973 California Angels provide 2 HOFers, Nolan Ryan and Frank Robinson, but not much else. I think Ryan, while solid, ever so increases the cost of your pitching staff and inflates WHIP slightly. Essentially, you are overpaying for strikeouts. I will hate to face him. On the other hand, the Angels have a very weak hitting infield. Good luck finding players to fill in your gaps.

Most owners would toss the Babe and his 25 million salary aside, but rls? I'm confident we'll see the Babe in his lineup, as he won't be able to resist the challenge.

Once the third round ends I will put timeslots back on. You can skip teams in the fourth round if their time is up.

For many teams, their fourth round pick may be the most agonizing of all. We should all be looking for good fourth round fits once you get your third round team handed to you.

To remind, you must use at least six players from each of your teams on your final roster. You can use any, at bats and innings pitched the player actually had for that team. I will check everyone's roster for accuracy before we start. I think next time I do this league I'm going to standardize the way everyone sees the players by saying you can only use the players that load when you load the team together. For the teams with 26 + players that won't catch everyone but at least it won't have at bats that aren't part of that team and the system I think needs to be standard. That's for next time though. For this time however you do your searches, you can use any at bats and innings played for that team that year.

Remember your final roster must have exactly these following primary positions

2 catchers
2 first base
2 second base
2 third base
2 shortstops
5 outfielders
10 pitchers

The primary position is shown in bold. Once the season starts you can play a player at any position where he has a WIS rating.

Some of us will end up with teams very different from the ones we like to build. Come up with a team name that kind of captures your team's zeitgeist.
Just want to be 100% clear on a couple of points.

1. Players may only be played at positions for which they have a WIS rating. No playing players out of position. Correct?
2. Player seasons used may only be Full or Partial seasons associated with the team you own. You may not use any combined seasons. Correct?

1. Correct. If a player's primary position is 2B but he also has WIS ratings at 3B and SS, he will count as one of your two 2B. However once the season starts you can start him at 2B, 3B or SS. You cannot start him at 1B as he doesn't have a WIS 1B rating.

2. You can only use the at bats or innings pitched he performed while on your team. If a player had 100 at bats for your team, 200 for another team and 300 altogether, you only get to use the 100 at bats he had while on your team. Check baseball reference if you're not sure about a particular player or ask me.

Fire's next team, the 1943 Brooklyn Dodgers.

One pitcher with a WHIP under 1.33, Whit Wyatt, becomes a prime dagger candidate.
There is not even a 3B on the roster.

Definitely more difficult to find an appropriate screw team at this end of the draft. But, I think I have found one that will make life difficult, and set up the dagger round.

Bigscungili has the 43 Cardinals and the 83 Indians. I have to give props to the 83 Indians selection as that roster is near useless. About all it provided was a couple of reasonable backups.

But how do you combat the balance and flexibility that the 43 Cardinals' roster affords? Bestow a team that turns the flexibility into a problem.

Enter the 1983 Oakland A's.

Sure, this team offers a very good Rickey Henderson. But at $6.7M, can you afford him and Musial's $9.5M? The rest of your offense is flexible and balanced, but unspectacular. So, can you afford not to keep them both. What if one of them gets the dagger?

There are no other offensive additions that really help. Lansford hits .308, but plays half the time. Can't afford to keep him as a backup to Kurowski, and he can't be your primary starter. Cleveland had no backup for 3B either, so right now Lansford and his $2.78M price tag is it.

Lopes is a downgrade at 2B from Klein, but you can only keep at the most 7 Cardinals anyway so you might have to take the downgrade. With no other 2B on the A's roster, you still have to find a backup that costs less than $1M.

No help in finding a cheap backup catcher. No help at 1B where you are lacking punch.

And then there is the pitching. The A's provide several good short relievers, but no usable starters. The beauty of your Cardinals team is they have a lot of good pitchers. The problem is they only have 2 starting pitchers with 200+ innings. You only get 10 pitchers so finding enough innings to be able to use the short relievers will be a challenge, especially if the dagger goes to someone like Mort Cooper.

You'll pick your final team with the next to last pick. We'll have to see what is left to help create a roster where you don't have to ditch the best players out of need to keep pricey backups.

We’re going on the clock for round 4, yes?

Yes - I'll put timeslots on page one after church.

Will start Monday morning. Three hour slots since we probably already have our last team narrowed down to 2 or 3 choices by now.

Not before fire gets over here and screws me!

Screw time for evil_twin - ET's '73 Dodgers are great! Solid hitters and excellent fielders, fantastic pitching. I had to pick a team with not so great hitters/fielders and its best players as pitchers - I found just the team I think - ET, you get the 1923 Brooklyn Robins.

There 2 best players are SP and are 8 mil and 7 mil - and they're not as good as your Dodger starters. I you choose to forgo using them you are stuck with the task of selecting a bunch of inferior hitters/fielders to replace your solid Dodgers.

Good luck!
