I am about to make the last pick of round four. I have it narrowed down to two teams.

As soon as I pick, you may post your first daggers. No order is needed.

I expect the dagger round to take about two days so no need to rush.

Please post which owner you are daggering, the player and the stadium.

1924 New York Giants

Daggers can now be posted, but please don't rush.

Let's have them all in by Friday night at 11 pm.

I haven't even looked at DD's team yet, so take your time and do some highly strategioric daggering.

I know the boss said don’t rush, but I have had 2 days to look

jpeterso It looks like you have good pitching and that the loss of one, wouldn’t, hurt that much. I thought your lineup look weak at catcher, 3B and 2b, so I’m daggering your one good 2B Jim Gilliam

Also daggering your Cleveland Stafium

I am confused, so we might need a clarification on the daggers. I thought we were daggering one player and one stadium from the first team we have listed. Then that owner will decide which of his teams gets the second player dagger, and the 5th owner in the division will apply that dagger only.

Is that correct? It looks like fatguyrd has daggered two different owners, and that wasn't how I thought this worked.

Correct - this round we dagger the same team (a player and a stadium)
8/31/2022 4:42 PM
Now I'm confused. To clarify:
  • Is fatguy's post incorrect and he should have daggered a player (Gilliam) and a stadium from jpeterson? This is how I understand the rules.
  • Per redcped - then we protect 3 of our teams from a dagger and the final dagger only impacts a team of our choosing?

Corrected, sorry to cause confusion.

To clarify, you dagger a stadium and player from one opposing manager.

The player and stadium can be from any of his four teams.

The player and stadium can be from different teams but should be teams owned by the same owner.

Hope that helps.

Looking at fatguy's corrected dagger of jpeterso

Jpterso has four teams

54 Dodgers
64 Indians
74 Red Sox
74 A's

He daggered Jim Gilliam (2B) off the 54 Dodgers and Cleveland Stadium from the 64 Indians

In short a good legal dagger.

You had to know this one was coming. You managed to come out of the draft with only one 3B under $2.3M, and all of the others play close to full-time. Therefore, I'm honor bound to dagger 1944 Chuck Aleno to leave you with this unpleasant dilemma: Spend $2.3M for a 3B defensive replacement that's decidedly average at playing defense, or roster the one 3B that can play another position and learn to love the D-/D- defense at 2B.

As for your stadium, you have three with a park factor of 0.99 and one with a park factor of 0.90. I'll make the choice all but meaningless in the grand scheme of things by daggering Yankee Stadium (I).

Well, let's get another dagger on the board then ...

ooooohdoggie, you've got some nice talent on that team, and it certainly would be nice to knock off a player I don't want to have to face all season. But I can't really find one who would be irreplaceable so I didn't go that direction.

One thing I see is you have a lot of players from those '54 Indians you'd like to use on the pitching staff, maybe as many as 6 if possible. But you also have some of your best hitters from that team, so there are tough decisions to make. My dagger choice might increase that difficulty some.

I noticed that you have only 5 rosterable 2B options. Two of them are pretty expensive in Carew and Avila, Orta is OK offensively but has a weak glove. And then there is Jacobs from the A's who can't hit or field. And just one lone backup.

And there's where we find a great dagger candidate, Pete Suder, 2B, '54 A's.

Without Suder, you'll have to roster 2 of your other 4 2B. Jacobs would be a $2.8M backup if you choose to go that route. Or you could play Avila or Orta at SS, where they are pretty awful defensively. And if you did have to use Avila as one of the 2B options, you'd have to make a difficult choice about other Indians. Suder also was your best defensive 3B replacement, and none of your options there is a great glove. Hopefully this has forced some tough choices, and your second dagger might make it even tougher possibly.

As for stadiums, the best choice to dagger is Comiskey Park. It's the only one of your four that has minus HR ratings, and you don't have many good HR hitters to choose from. I figure having to take a +1 HR park isn't going to be much help to your offense.

My first dagger goes to fatguyrd. He started off strong with the '64 Cards - a team with a good mix of offense and pitching. I'm surprised he was able to get such a good team late in the first round. In fact, I can see 10 players that he'd probably like to have on his final roster. His 2nd ('34 Braves) and 3rd ('44 Blue Jays) teams don't offer him much help, esp. in the area of starting pitching. His selection of the '74 Expos as his 4th team was a wise choice and gave him much needed relief pitching and back-up 1B options.
I thought about taking away one of his options at SS but I think the best dagger would be take away one of his potential starting pitchers (and one of the few good players on that '44 Blue Jays team) - Ken Raffensberger.
My stadium dagger is Braves Field from the '34 Braves

The '64 Reds were an excellent fisrt team particularly due to their pitching depth and a couple of solid hitters. The 24 Tigers were a nice compliment and added some strong hitting. Your best hitters are in the outfield and too many of them for me to worry about. A dagger here would be a waste. My focus is on your pitching.

The Reds provide several starting pitching options and Rip Collins from the 24 Tigers is also a quality starter. The '54 Pirates and '74 Royals don't offer you much. Rather than dagger one of your starters, I am going to take away Sammy Ellis from the '64 Reds. I think he is your best overall pitcher and could have pitched in about 75% of your games at the back of the bullpen.

Pitching is still your strength, so I am going to take away Crosley Field which is your most pitcher friendly park.
8/31/2022 7:46 PM
Okay Kentol - your original choice was the 1954 White Sox, there must be about 6 or 7 reasons for that pick. I see 3 on offense that I would want.
I think the one that would hurt you the most to lose is SS Chico Carrasquel, so he is getting deported as of right now..

You really dont have great pitching (IMO) so you must be thinking offense - therefore I take away the Baker Bowl from your 1924 Phillies
