Alright then. So the question is "crushing it."
This is not the proper forum, the Flyers forum is, but I'm gonna say it here: A lot of people have put a lot of expectations on Brayden Schenn. Even the Kings contributed to it by dangling/not dangling him for the past year. Everyone around the league kept saying, Brayden Schenn Brayden Schenn Brayden Schenn.
To use a baseball allegory, Brayden Schenn has somehow become Bryce Harper, a legend before he's reached the league.
Unless Bryzgalov wins a cup and Brayden Schenn becomes Mike Richards 2.0 in full, Holmgren has not CRUSHED IT.
The picks are just icing on the cake (Schenn and Couturier). Where Homer really crushed it was making the near impossible call to trade two players (best friends) that had contracts which would have made it impossible to resign JVR, Coburn, and Carle next season, and Giroux shortly after. Once those NMCs kicked in we would've been screwed. He crushed it because he got BIGGER wingers in return (w/ NHL experience and upside to boot) which was a team NEED. He crushed it cause he signed a top Goalie (another team NEED) for the FIRST time in team history since Bernie Parent in the 70s. Thats the first Flyers coach to EVER change the team philosophy of not paying big $ for goaltending. He crushed it because he is added some prospects into THE WORST MINORS in hockey (Schhenn, Courturier, a 2nd, and a 3rd), something the team needs once Briere, Hartnell, Pronger, Timonen retire/leave. He crushed it by realizing Richie and Carter were set in there ways and weren't seeing eye to eye with the coach - something had to give, and now. He crushed it by handing the reigns over to Giroux and JVR.... but not the captaincy - that will go to a guy that buys into the team philosophy. We still have $10 million in cap space and more 'cards' to play.
Just seeing carts reaction, the sulking at his beach house... his agent calling Homer a liar.... makes us flyers fans see his immaturity. Richie needed the wake--up call, and not having to deal with the "C" on his chest is probably the best thing for his career.
