There is no guarantee that even one owner from those worlds will join another world if said worlds close. They do not affect demand.

WifS world shutdown is pointless and potentially runs off customers.

But if even one owner did join another world (a more likely scenario than saying none would), that would increase turnaround.

What are the assumptions that we are using? Do we assume that demand is relatively static (new customers="customers" leaving)? If so, WIS would evenutally make more money by shutting down worlds to bring supply closer to demand.

Or WifS could lose a dozen customers forever. Not worth it.

Risk/reward thing.

Now, if WifS implemented a new policy starting in March 2009, that's another story.

Something simple and not ridiculous. Worlds with 16 or more openings for 30 days will be closed.

I think WIS is doing the right thing. Don't add more worlds until demand equals current supply.

I don't think they should implement a policy to shut down worlds in the future, that would be death to any world that has many openings, people would be hesitant to join worlds with heavy openings because they fear it would be short lived. Worlds that might fill now might not fill with that policy in place.

As it stands, they shouldn't allow worlds to be created for a long, long time. I think there are about 170 worlds(Braggin' Rights is 167). There should probably be about 150.

A world with 16 openings for 30 days is dead. Their only hope is promo codes and aliases.

If nothing else, they'd get off their ***** and try to save their world if it's worth saving.

Even with a 16 openings for 30 days policy, I believe only two worlds would have been closed. Wright and MLHB.
12/1/2008 8:59 AM
MLHB was rolled over at the end of October.

It's the first of December. 30 days in November.

I disagree. Any world with an opening is affecting supply. The opening is the supply of the good.

And you're right, there is no guarantee, but I'd put the number somewhere around 80% or more of the people who enjoy HBD would join another world if their world got shut down. The other 20% may be bitter and move on. You can argue with the % I threw out, but I'm sure at least some would join other worlds.

This makes sense. If you have half the league open, and you've had time equivalent to 1/3 of a season to fill it, shut it down. It falls under the heading of "can't please everyone", but it helps the HBD community overall.

I guess we'll disagree. I assume no one eats **** sandwiches. So, if someone makes 12 **** sandwiches, it doesn't matter as no one will buy them. So they can make 6 or 60 and the supply is still the same as far as the world is concerned.

And it's not like shutting worlds down is something that will happen long term to 1/2 of the existing worlds. Shutting down 3 worlds is 96 slots.

Take, for instance, MHLB. They have 21 openings, thus 11 filled teams. Let's say 9 of those owners pick up another team, and 2 get ****** and leave. That's 21 + 9 (which equals 30) fewer openings. Do this a few more times and things all of a sudden look pretty reasonable.

And if nothing else, this over-supply of HBD teams has at least been useful for some interesting discussion. :)
