Beyond the third round is where we (or at least I) will start to feel the pain of the not-quite-high-enough cap. I've now spent half my available dough on three players. With those three dudes I've taken care of usage, assists, FTAs and 3s for my starting lineup, with good defense all around and a start on boards. But I'm going to be pinching pennies the rest of the way, looking for bargain players that do one thing well to fill in gaps.
Ltb- that's the whole point (to me at least) of 50M.
There is so much depth in the league that keeping it somewhat constrained (but looser than the ODL) allows "role players" to still have a place in this league.
As it is, having 5+ versions of Lebron, Wilt, Howard, Rodman and Stockton means multiple teams will look similar. The cap at least allows people to go their own way in the end and creates a real conundrum to how much to spend on your top 5 or 7.
Example: Last season I was faced with (unnamed) in the 5th at a high salary (normally goes in first 2 rounds of other draft lgs). I couldn't resist, took him, weakened my bench and he wasn't a great fit anyway.
Certainly a completely unlimited cap, "Build the cookie team" league is also a fun concept, whether via a draft or simply a normal theme league which has been done before. There, you can fill out your studs to your hearts content
